All,

my fiance called Knightbridge doctors today and they told him he could not schedule his medical until he had all his documents meaning foreign police certificate. he already has his UK one, i thought they only need his medical questionaire and UK police certificate. Please provide some light on this situation. I think he was misinformed as they told him they would check his documents. thanks in advance

You need a Police clearance for all and any countries lived in for 6 months from when you turned 16, to present, at the medical. I think it's so they can check if there are any drug related charges and things like that.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long to arrive. I had to get a foreign Police certificate too and ordered it in September (at an extortionate cost) and got confirmation that it is being couriered to me this week. Like you, I also found out only later that I needed it.

Oh my goodness you are scaring me... Almost three months!! Where did you have to get it from? He needs his from Ghana. He will request it from the ghananian embassy in London. Is it usually faster getting it in person or through the embassy?

Check with the Ghanaian embassy in London and see if he can do it through there. I tried, but the option wasn't available. I had to trek miles out to get fingerprints taken (for the bargain price of £102) plus travel costs, pay DHL £39 to get the original forms and a copy of my passport over for a passport/certificate service which cost me about £140 plus return courier fees. I have no idea about Ghana, but if the embassy here is able to process the clearance, I'd jump at the opportunity. I really don't think it can be any worse.

i know he is going to the embassy on tuesday so hopefully they would be able to process for him there.

I hope it goes well for you. You guys have had quite a journey! Let us know how it works out. Some embassies/police services allow a paid expedite. Had this been an option, I would have taken it, but it wasn't for me. However, we are still waiting for our NOA2 so time wasn't such an issue for this one. Wishing you all the best!!

Do they take phone calls? Could he call them in advance to ask so that he doesn't wait around and waste a trip?

I thought it was more than 12 months as per the embassy website?
