Gas prices will continue to drop as long as global warming is in effect and the hurricanes leave the gulf alone. Good news for all. Thanks to the current administration for turning off the hurricanes! !

Consumer sentiment is high? Where? I don't see any happy consumers where I live. I think the way we are going today, the US will...

Wait, I need to confer with Kip a minute before I say more.

Nearly half of Florida households are struggling financially, United Way reports

Nearly half of Florida households do not earn enough to pay for basic necessities, according to a report released Tuesday by the United Way that seeks to cast a light on the large group of state residents who struggle financially but do not meet the official criteria for being in poverty.

While 15 percent of Florida households are below the poverty level, another 30 percent are financially insecure — a figure that also applies to Sarasota and Manatee counties — based on a new measurement developed by the United Way.

The report zeroes in on the plight of low-income workers, people who have steady jobs but grapple with low wages and the increasing costs of many necessities. The United Way — a leading nonprofit in many communities that helps funnel donations to other organizations that assist those in need — created a new way of defining this population in an attempt to spark a broader discussion about those experiencing economic hardship and spur community leaders to action.

“We need to be aware that there are a lot of us that need some help along the way in different aspects of our lives,” said Philip Brown, executive director for the United Way of Manatee County.

Florida's large number of financially fragile households is rooted in a number of economic trends, including housing affordability and other cost-of-living concerns. But the main driver is the dearth of middle-class jobs.

“We face some real low-paying career options around here with tourism and the retirement communities,” said Maryann Terry, executive director of the United Way of South Sarasota County.

No wonder in a state run by Republicans. Same in Texas, by the way. And in Louisiana and Mississippi and Georgia and Alabama. Notice a pattern there, lib? Yeah, that's right. Republicans run all these places.

While I'm sure posting that made you smile oh-so-big, perhaps you should have looked into poverty in other states....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2013/11/08/poverty-in-13-states-is-worse-than-we-thought/

( I apologize if my source is too RWNJ for you. Just working with what's out there)

The supplemental measure finds that the poverty rate was 7.3 percentage points higher in California, the state with the biggest gain to its official rate. New Jersey was next, followed by Hawaii. Poverty also rose in Florida, Nevada, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, Illinois and Colorado.

Color me blue, but I see a few democratic states in there.

That's an incorrect statement, IMHO. If you can afford a gas guzzler, the price of gas is the least of your concerns.

One of my daily drivers is a mean spirited 302CID Mustang GT. Many people ask me what gas mileage I get with it and my answer is always the same: Don't know. Don't care.

The only people concerned with the price of gas are those who can't afford the cars they drive anyway, regardless of the cost of gas.

Now, come on....

If you wait long enough it'll come trickling down... Give it yet another 40 years...

Yes, and that will continue as long as the wealth and income concentration accelerates. That is why policy solutions should be identified that will counter this destructive trend.

Not a true statement. I can very easily afford my truck, and yet I pay attention to gas prices as well as my MPG. Your logic is flawed.

You would be accurate in saying YOU don't care about gas prices or MPG, but you can't speak for other people, regardless of their financial status.

I didn't say you shouldn't pay attention, but obviously when gas goes back to $4+/gallon - as it will eventually - you will not sell your truck because you can no longer afford it.

Anyone who buys a gas guzzler couldn't care less about the price of gas.
