HI everybody,

I expect to get the green card through DV Visa soon, I'm really confused with the ability to stay out US and come back before 6 months and about the exit re entry for 2 years allowance, and for sure I'm afraid of losing the green card so I want to make sure if some one go and back before the 6 months for a short period or if get the 2 years exit permit is that safe and will not lose the green card ?? some people said that even if you come back before the 6 months or if you get 2 years exit they may cancel the green card !! please advice

thank you

hi

the GC is for living here, working here and paying taxes. if you want to work abroad, why apply?

you can't be coming and going all the time, proving that you live abroad more than you live here, every 6 months.

One thing is to travel abroad to visit for 6 months or less, but your title suggests that you want to work abroad. What do you want to do and for how long?

The reentry permit is used only if you plan to be abroad for over a year and up to 2 years, to not lose your GC, but you have to justify the need, For example, to study abroad.

Thank you for your reply, actually sure I want to live and work in US but first I'm trying to discover my options, and since I'm already working in Riyadh in a good project and the project may need 2 years to be finished also good income here so I just wonder if choosing to complete this project is an acceptable option without losing the GC

The green card is for permanent residents of the US. If you don't plan to reside in the US at all (until it suits you) then I suspect you would be at risk of abandoning your PR status. Just depends what is worth more to you - the outside-US job, or the green card. You can of course apply for the returning resident visa, but there's no guarantee you'll be readmitted and noone can advise you that it is guaranteed.
