A Gary, Indiana, boy was killed Friday after being shot nine times by a neighbor whose home was burglarized earlier in the day, police said.

The 13-year-old boy, Kobe Jones, was reportedly laughing about the home invasion after his neighbor created a scene outside the home on the 1000 block of Polk Street.

Police said the home was burglarized at about 12:30 p.m. Friday. The homeowner and his girlfriend returned home about five hours later and was visibly upset about the discovery, police said.

"I was told that my son was laughing and the guy shot him dead," Jones' father, Kaunda Jones, told reporters.

The teen, one of 12 siblings and described as a funny, outgoing young man, died at the scene and his death was ruled a homicide. Family members said the unexpected funeral would be a financial burden and have created an account to collect donations. Contributions can be sent in the form of a check or a money order to 505 Adams St., Gary, IN 46402 or the Chase account 3005774699.

The neighbor and his girlfriend took off after the shooting and were arrested at about 7 p.m. when they returned to the home, police said. Their names were not publicly released because no charges had been filed by midday Saturday.

I was reading in the comments that some people think this kid should have been shot for laughing. Goes to show how truly ignorant people can be.

No doubt. Whether or not it is OK to laugh at someone else's misfortune (of course, it is not - but teenagers often act dickish) is rendered completely irrelevant by the fact that the neighbour shot him 9 times and killed him.

That is clearly not a reasonable reaction to say the least.

I'm not sure he was laughing at his misfortune.

If the guy was acting a fool, he could have been laughing at that instead of him getting robbed. Unfortunately, we will never know.

Sure, but even if he was it doesn't justify the guy shooting him to death.

Yep. Do you want to wager someone might come in here and justify it?

A lot of the comments I read says it was a justified killing. A kid laughing at someone who had their house burglarized is clearly justified.

Just waiting to see if/when it will spill here. It's still early...

Ok, his name was Kobe and he came from a family of 12 siblings and his family can't afford to pay for the funeral and want others to help them pay. Obviously it's a black family.

How did I do?

I seriously don't feel I can post in this forum anymore because every thread is just a fishing attempt. Clearly shooting a little boy for laughing is barbaric. I am glad no one here has made negative comments about the victim.

This wasn't an attempt to fish, just stating what people do.

You have to admit, it wouldn't be a stretch on here.
