Hi, my fiancee will hopefully be here around the beginning of the year so we're thinking of a Spring wedding. We've been tossing a couple of ideas around for our honeymoon destination but haven't really settled on anything yet. March or April can be tricky months in a lot of areas.

I'd love to hear where any of our members honeymooned and if they'd recommend it, or if they have any ideas or know of cool things happening in their part of the country that might do. I'm open to all kinds of ideas. Thanks!

It depends on what interests you. Texas has a lot: http://www.texasescapes.com/

The weather in most of the state should be mighty fine by earlier April. Too bad that your then-wife probably won't have her Advance Parole (AP) yet, or you could pop into Mexico for day-trips. Contrary to media reports, the tourist areas of the border towns are as safe as anywhere.

The Fredericksburg, TX area has a distinct German history, and that atmosphere might be within shouting distance of that of The Netherlands. You could fly into Austin or San Antonio (great destinations in their own right) and go driving. The Texas Hill Country is breathtaking in springtime (almost year-round, actually).

Helpful hint: If you plan to travel within a 100-mile radius of either U.S. border, keep a duplicate original of your marriage certificate with you, along with the wife's passport and I-94. If you've applied for AOS with AP but haven't received approval yet, keep a copy of your NOA1, or at least the cover-letter for your AOS package, with you as you travel. The CBP has inland checkpoints in unlikely places, and they'll be thrilled to meet a legal immigrant who has thorough documentation. I had Mrs. T-B. keep everything possible with her until her green card was in hand, and traveling went very well.

If you have questions about any Texas destination, I've seen much of the state, and I'll do my best to help.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Orlando Florida is a place with a lot to do, Southern Ca. But stay away from the lower edge of San Diego. Catalina Island is just off the coast of LA and pretty, There is the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas also

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

1. Houseboat on a lake, stock up on supplies on day 0.

2. rent a cabin at the grand canyon.

3. come to Texas, rent a house in Galveston, charter a fishing boat.

4. want snow? go north ! lots of places with winter wonderland still - cabins or ski resorts (these are different venues). maybe. April? unsure..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Terrific ideas everyone! I really appreciate you taking the time to share them.

I live in Washington state and am from southern California originally and there are definitely lots of lovely places here in the Pacific northwest and all along the west coast worth considering. We're weighing all the options right now.

I've considered that he might like to explore areas closer to his new home but on the other hand, I'd kind of like to see something new. Never been east of Colorado or the southern states (although I've been around the southwest a fair bit). My mom suggested maybe Santa Fe or Taos might be nice with good weather. But the suggestion to delay the honeymoon until we get AP is worth considering too.

Great food for thought! Any other ideas? I know it's a topic we all think about at some point in this process and maybe it will help give other couples some ideas too. :)

Napa in northern California is gorgeous, wine country and forests. We did a tour around Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake and through Yosemite as well which was awesome but the through road is closed off due to snow in March and April.

My wife and I went to Puerto Rico last April and had a great time. Fly to San Juan and then to Vieques and stay at the Blue Horizon http://www.bluehorizonboutiqueresort.com/ . Be sure to take a bio bay kayak tour on Vieques or over in Fajardo, you won't be disappointed.

Aloha! Hawaii is perfect that time of year... and all other months as well! Just make sure you fly non-stop to/form the mainland if you do that. At the other end of the spectrum, there is always Whistler, just up the road from you..

Congrats!
