just been to speak to a nurse about shots and get a printout of them (got them signed and practice stamped just to make sure)

i told her about the DTP shots and told her if the last one was over ten years ago ill need a booster. I had my last one in 1999 but she said ive had 5 over the years and thats me ok for life. Will knightsbridge charge me for a tetanus? also ive seen elsewhere its not just the base cost they might ask its additional

how much should i put by?

Once you have 5 they shouldn't make you have another, especially as you have the print out. I believe it is £45 on top of the standard medical fee if they do make you have one.

Couple things to keep in mind...

Vaccinations are NOT required for a K1 visa.

Vaccinations ARE required for AOS, after arrival to US.

Durring the medical you do NOT have to get the vaccinations you are missing.

You can, if you want to get it done then, but not required.

My fiance is also missing some vaccinations. It was noted on his medical exam what he was missing and informed that he would need them, eventually.

Medical done.. and he is going to his doctor next week to get the vaccinations.

However, there is 1 he will not be getting until he arrives in the states.

I say just get another one anyway if they suggest it, because it costs a lot more in the states to get thing done, We had it so easy in the UK, plus if you get it all done and get the "incomplete, but age not required for some shots" sheet, then you won't need to see a civil surgen in the usa to get the rest.

I had a booster because my last one was like 10 years + 1 month ago when i had my medical.

They do weigh you, it's just for medical purposes, denials only come when something could affect you in the usa, alas if you are a burden to the healthcare. They also xray your chest to check for tuberculosis , take a blood test for syphilis, and make sure you're the sex you claim to be...

They are really friendly though so everything is done in a nice way.

It's all very quick and simple.

When you were told he would need them, were you instructed to get the shots done, and have the proof sent from your doctor to knightsbridge?so they could be put on your offical US record?

Sometimes they only take certified transcripts from their own doctors.

It is a lot easier to get it all done in the UK and proofed by the knightsbridge doctors than to get them in the USA.

That is why k1 london is suggest to get them done before the interview, it's quicker and easier and cheaper.

Vaccinations are NOT required for a K1 visa.

They are only required for the AOS which is done after POE and marriage.

However, I will agree with you about cost. It is FAR cheaper to have the vaccinations done in the UK vs the US.

Yes they are not a requirement for K1, only for AOS, I never said they were...

but that's the reason we tell people to get them at the medical, because it is easier and cheaper.

I have seen countless times, that some people have had trouble just getting the shots done outside the medical.

Getting them in the usa is not a problem (expensive though) but getting them in the UK usually means they are not recorded properly unless sent to knights bridge to add to the medical records that are put in the package FOR AOS.

That way you don't usually have to see a civil doctor to get the other paper work transcribed.

Like I said, it's just easier.

Read this from someone who did not get it done in advance of the medical at Knightsbridge.

Or this http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/461012-medical-exam-for-aos-after-k1/

These are just two examples of probably a hundred, from many countries, I have read and replied to.

Wouldn't it be easier to put a completed DS-3025 in your AOS packet and not have to go through these experiences? That's why we try to warn people in the guide to get the shots done. You haven't read the AOS forums and the problems people encounter with Civil Surgeons. Shots at your GP later will not count for AOS until a Civil Surgeon in the US fills out a new form.

Out of curiosity, I called down the list of civil surgeons for zip code 90022 to help someone I felt sorry for. I figured I knew exactly what to explain to them. They don't listen or care. I was so angry after calling 13 offices and all said no to doing the vaccination form without the full medical exam. Average cost was $245. That does not include the actual shots.

Thank you for the links Nick.

I linked them to my fiance and neither of us are worried about it.

Our local civil surgeon is in the same office as my PCP and eases the concern.

We'll take our chances. Afterall, ensuring our future is priceless.

That bit i get however. im curious as to if theyll ask me to get a 6th tetanus shot because my fifth was in 1999. the NHS wont give me number 6 cause 5 is my fill

I do not know because I can't see your immunization list exactly written out like they will. You earlier said you had 5 DTP shots. That is very different than a tetanus shot. But I have read that 5 tetanus combined with others is considered lifetime max in the UK. So you doctor is following protocol.

However, to immigrate to the US, you are subject to American protocol. CDC, which makes up the rules, gives these details on tetanus--

Booster vaccines needed to keep up protection from tetanus

The tetanus vaccine does not offer lifetime protection. People need booster vaccines to keep up protection from tetanus.

Children should get a booster vaccine called Tdap (which protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough) at 11 or 12 years of age.

Adults need a booster called the Td vaccine (for tetanus and diphtheria) every 10 years. Adults should also receive a one-time shot of the Tdap vaccine in place of one Td shot.

Incidentally, the US schedule has a series of 5 also with the last one during adolescence, yet they still mention adults need a booster every 10 years.

So I personally would pay Knightsbridge for any shot they say is lacking. If they will sign off on tetanus only, fine. If they say Td is required to get the sign off, then get that. If they will sign off that it is contraindicated, that works too. I wouldn't guess what they will say and try to make a plan. Just ask them on the day. Your doctor said no, so pay for it if Knightsbridge says required. Then you are done with it. And it will be good practice for when you are in the US and will never see a doctor without having to pay something. :P
