US citizenship and Indian OCI & PIO question

Hi ,

I am an permanent resident of US ( unconditional green card holder) . My wife is USC. I got my permanent residence due to marriage to my wife. We are planning to visit India by Jan,2015. I am also planning on applying on US citizenship due to some talks from my friends and relatives.Here are some queries:

a) Travelling to India from USA and back - Travelling as a permanent resident with US with with Indian visa VS travelling as US citizen with usc wife . Which sounbds better to you guys ? my friends and relatives told me to get US citizenship before making international travel .... that travelling as permanent resident may not be safe and may not have a easy and safe entry back to USA... also the CBP in USA POE and Indian immigrations treat US citizens and permanent residents differntly. Is there any chance like that ? I was planning to apply for naturalization next year but not before the trip.

b) If i get the citizenship , I need and OCI card to travel to India and wife would need either Indian visa or PIO card . Right ?

c) we have plans of retiring in India in future. In that case what are the options for me ( in case I take US citizenship) and for my USC wife ?

d) Do permanent residents and US citizens have different lines in Indian Immigrations ? what about in US immigration ?

April 2, 2009 : Biometrics done. Total time taken with wait 20 mins.
April 22, 2009 : Called USCIS. They have received fingerprints and work permit is in process.
May 7, 2009 : I-765 case online. Card Production ordered.
May 11,2009 : EAD card received.
May 12,2009 : Applied for SSN.
May 18,2009 : Received SS card.
June 08,2009 : Received Letter for Interview ( scheduled on July 14 th July )
July 14th : Great Interview. All done in 20 mins.
July 18th: Online status - Card Production ordered. Thank God !! I-130 online status : Pending
July 23rd : Welcome to USA & I-130 approval letter recieved. Online status still shows pending.
July 31st : Received conditional green card
Removing Condition
3/25/11 - Received reminder from USCIS to file for ROC
5/6/11 - Sent I-751 Packet to CSC via usps
5/9/11- Package delivered to csc.
5/11/11- Check cashed electronically by CSC
5/16/11- NOA 1 received
5/27/11 - Biometrics letter received.Scheduled on 06/06/11. Case Online
6/6/11 - Biometrics done
9/6/11 - Approved.Card Production Ordered
9/12/11- Card Received

Citizenship

10/13/15 : Sent N400

10/16/15 : NOA

11/13/15 : Fingerprints

11/17/15 : In Line for Interview

01/11/16 : Interview- Passed & Given Oath letter & Date by hand

That's baloney as long as you are not outside of the US longer than 6 months. If you are outside of the US from 6 months to 1 year, then it's possible you may get extra scrutiny. If you are outside longer than 1 year, then it becomes challenging.

July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)

While it's easier to travel as a US citizen, it's not going to cause you danger on re-entry to be a PR-- unless you stay in India for a long time--which you probably can't do anyway since your wife can only legally stay in India for 6 months on a tourist visa.

The only hassle is you'll have to go through the Indian passport customs line in India, which usually takes a lot longer and is separate from your wife. No need to postpone your trip, just be prepared to spend more time waiting in the airport.

When you come back to the US, I'm pretty sure PRs and US citizens go through the same line.

No idea about retirement and all that-sorry!

Yes, US Citizens and LPR's can go through the line together. However, it may not be the US Citizens line as some airports (Seattle for example) have LPR's go through the visitor's channel.

You can stay as long as you want.

my parents are us citizen and they goes more then year sometime.

you just have to visit police station. They now have oci card.

Listen Modi (PM of India) he announce that he is going to make all this easy. And he will do it as he said.
