Firstly, has anyone else noticed that Ron Paul has more than a look of Magneto about him from the X-Men movies.

Secondly, why is this guy so popular among so called independents when he has views like this?

Former Rep. Ron Paul believes that the government knew beforehand, in detail, about the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and that the information has been kept from the public in a classified section of the 9/11 commission report.

When the host of Money and Markets, Charles Goyette, recently said that it is "shocking that the American people are prohibited from knowing the whole truth about 9/11," Paul countered: "Boy, that's for sure. It's shocking, but then, when you stop and think about it, shouldn't we expect this from our government? Which is really sad."

The same reason the Kenyan is so popular among the Deniers, but has openly said he only cares about civil cases, in which the criminal looks like him and has amassed more national debt than any President in history.

I doubt Ron Paul has much popular support among independents, amongst the disaffected? Highly likely. The disaffected come in all shapes and sizes, believing that 9/11 is part of some grand scheme by a political elite that is separate from the people and doesn't include Ron Paul comes with the territory. That's a convoluted truth to be sure, but it is going to appeal to people who can simultaneously believe that Obama is both a Marxist and a serf of the ISIS Caliphate. It's what happens when you are shoved along by your emotions by so called news service such as Fox who think that best use of the forth estate is so make fun of those who wield power and influence if Fox itself (for its own internal political/financial reasons) does not like their message, not actually do serious journalistic investigation into policy choices and effects, good and bad.

I do actually believe that the US foreign policy that resulted in the war in Iraq was at least partly motivated by private business interests - i don't think that's too controversial.

Saying that the US Government deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen after receiving detailed knowledge of the plot is very far fetched. If it were true, it would be the worst scandal In US history. I think Bush and Cheney were pretty evil - but that's on a whole other level.

Ron Paul doesn't seem interested in the part that is provable, that private business interests were served by the invasion and very, very politically naive attempt to westernize Iraq but instead pretends he has some secret knowledge about 9/11 and governmental plots. I have to assume, that aside from demonstrating mental instability, his desire to align himself with 9/11 truthers is to lend credence to the idea what he is somehow not part of the current political elite, even while, in fact he is. It's quite irrational really, and will only appeal to the politically disaffected of which there seem to be quite a number, although so far not significant when it comes to elections.

That isn't what he said.

Publicly available information confirms exactly what he said. The WTC was bombed twice. First, by Ramzi Youseff (truck bomb). Then by his uncle Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Ramzi Youseff escaped to the Philippines where he and his uncle, the mastermind of 9/11 went about plotting mass hijackings which included blowing a bomb up on a Japanese airline flight for an experiment, killing one passenger.

Their plot was broken up by the Philippines national police because some of their bomb-making material caught fire in their apartment and the fire department reported the suspicious evidence. That led to the capture of Ramzi Youseff, the first WTC bomber and the computer hard drive outlining the various iterations of the Bojinka Plot including flying planes into buildings. Assassinating the Pope too.

Uncle Khalid escaped to the awaiting arms of Osama Bin Laden, who financed the modified Bojinka plot that became 9/11. How many people know that the two world trade center bombers were uncle and nephew? Well add to this the Presidential Daily Briefing of Aug 6 2001 entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S."

Read that: it starts off not with some top-secret information, but television interviews Bin Laden did, shown to millions of people that they would follow the footsteps of Ramzi Yousef. Etc.

Paul did not say anyone deliberately allowed it. Negligence of the highest order, sure - Bush was on vacation when he received that PDB, had told the Boy Scouts it was important for him to vacation before he went, and was in a school building reading "My Pet Goat" with children when they struck.

Bush knew before he went into the first classroom that a plane had already hit one of the towers and decided to go through with the Photo Op. It was the SECOND plane hitting the second tower we have excellent video of Bush for. Even after his chief of staff specifically tells him that America is under attack - what does he do? He sat there like the nincompoop he is, that historical disgrace, and waited for the video op to end.
