My husband had his K3 interview in Bogota today and was given a 221g with request for more picture and for me to accompany him to next interview. I'm calling to request a new appointment tomorrow. If anyone has this experience or similar, please give me some feedback on how things went.

Basically, they asked my husband questions about our age difference (I'm 7 years older than he is), about my divorce and custody issues. They weren't satisfied with the amount of pictures we had together (most were at our civil wedding). I think the age factor, because he's a man, was a big issue to the consul officer (female). I'm going to the next interview and I want to be as prepared as possible..

WOW...sorry to hear about your husband getting a 221g...I believe because of the political climate (immigration) that exist in the country today the consulate officers are on the lookout for fraud more than ever before and yes I agree gender and the age difference did raise some eyebrows... Its a shame to think that you may be the victim of a double standard if the genders were reversed you would probably be planning your spouses departure, anyway you need to stay focused,.. For your next interview you need to overwhelm them with your most recent documents and of course your presence... Also include recent e-mails, phone records or if you use prepaid phone cards keep them all, if you use western union to wire money they can provide you with a print out of all transactions, dates and amounts. Bring as many pictures as you can find stay positive and remember that this is just an unfortunate bump in the road.. I have seen your dedication to the K3 process by reading your updates and I am impressed with your contributions to VJ's Colombia Club keep up the good work and remember stay positive, stay strong and stay focused.

Julian and Angela,

Thank you for your encouragement. I woke up in great spirits today. Also, as Oscar calmed down yesterday, he gave me more details about the interview and things weren't that bad at all. They did pepper him with many questions about my family, but he answered them all truthfully and with the knowledge that he had. He couldn't be expected to understand why I only list one of my children on my taxes and not both (they asked him this), but he explained that my x and I share custody of the children and don't pay child support to each other. And he told me later that the CO was actually very polite and asked him rather gently if it would be a problem for me to come for the next interview. I think its going to be ok. I also talked to a friend who's an immigration lawyer here in Atlanta and he said the same as you. You know, I'm really thankful to this community. The support that I've gotten from everyone throughout this process is incredible! That's why I try to help everone that's coming behind me. I see that you're in Atlanta. I hope that once your spouse and my spouse are here we can all get together. I see she's from Medellin, like Oscar and myself. Are you Colombian? Anyway....thanks again for your encouragement. Let me know if I can be of help in anyway to you.

I had this situation in Montreal. The CO doled out the 221(g) and one of the 3 citations was requesting an interview with the petitioner (me/female). I flat out refused, and provided them will all types of ducmentation as to why I could not just up and travel to Canada at that time. FWIW, I hadn't found VJ until after our interview, and true to form, VJ'ers advised me to go or face consequences.

I wouldn't advise you to do what I did, but just wanted to respond that I also had this situation, and overcame it.

Hi Andrea,

I am glad to hear that you are still in good spirits and I'm sure this will be resolved at your next interview... I am American born of Colombian and Puerto Rican decent my mother is from Cali I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and lived there most of my life until I took a transfer with my job here in Atlanta three years ago, I live in Marietta... My girlfriend was born and raised and still lives in Bello I spoke with her today about finishing up package number 3 she still has not actually received pkg 3 but my lawyer mailed her the documents pre-filled and she needs to add signatures and a picture... I think it still may be to early to contact the embassy although the lawyer said she would e-mail me with an interview date if I didn't hear from Bogota...I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide; you seem to be pretty savvy with the details and the process and yes, we look forward to meeting you and your husband one day here in the USA very soon.

Julian

Thank you for the replys...

I called the embassy today and got a new appointment for FEB 16th. I've made my flight reservations, too!

I'm planning on printing out every email b/w Oscar and I and as many IMs as I can print. I also went back and found a bunch of phone records from Skype and Tel3 and I've decided to place every call to Oscar with TEL3 from today forward so that I can print out the record. And when I get to Bogota, we're taking as many pics as we can, in as many outfits as possible. They want pictures, then I'll take them pictures.

I've also been planning our Church wedding since I got home from Colombia last August. I reserved the site for the ceremony since September (the date is set for 07/07/07 my daughter's idea- its a Saturday!!!) and I'll take proof of that along with all the quotes for the reception, wedding dress, dress fitting appointments, caterers, etc... Of course I don't have to prove intent to marry, but we had a civil ceremony there and I want to have a wedding with all of my family and friends in attendance (I eloped the first time at 18).

I would really love to here from Bunny and LAL about the questions you were asked at the interview and the process itself. Why did they want you to come, what did they ask you for, ect....

Julina, I was born in Medellin, raised in Miami (since age 5), my mom is Colombian, my dad is Cuban...so I can relate and well, if I had to be born again...I'd choose to be born in Cali (ssshhhhh, don't tell on me, I love Salsa more than life itself!!!!). Send me a PM anytime: dreherrera@hotmail.com.

Also...JULIAN.... have Angela fax the PK3 docs to the embassy ASAP and send them via SERVIENTREGA the same day. This will speed up the process by almost a month, sometimes 2. Don't wait for your PK3 to arrive. You'll notice in my timeline that we didn't wait and we got the appointment immediately. The cuttoff date for February was Jan 20th, but she may get luck and get a late Feb appointment or at worst an EARLY March appointment if she sends it this week.

Let me know if you have any questions about this. Also, I recommend the Colombian Club thread in the Embassy Forum. That's where I reside most often, before this lovely 221g!!!

LOL
