My American friend is trying to get his new born child a passport from US Embassy in Cambodia and they are making him, his girlfriend and baby take DNA tests. They had to pay $800 and wait for a DNA kit from the US to arrive and then will have to wait for the results. This has been over three weeks and the DNA test kit has not arrived as of today. Wish you luck.

OP, I agree with the above responses. You should definitely consider the useful information given and plan accordingly.

I would suggest having the baby in the US, then travel overseas to get the child Japanese citizenship and to meet family members.

Your plan is very risky in my opinion but goodluck if you decide to go ahead with your plans.

All three of my kids were born C-section and born early. The last 2 were a month early. I never thought in a million years I ever would need C-sections.... All of my pregnancies were healthy. So all I thought about when reading your post was " oh my GOD, what a terrible risk to take" I agree with Newbie608 to have the baby here and then travel. That way you avoid the filing for US citizenship and the removing conditions filing. You won't miss your biometrics appointment. And what if ( God Forbid) you have complications... I know "what if" is not a good game to play, but giving birth is not perfect. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN. Plus airlines have rules about pregnant passengers. If the pressure from flying made my tooth infection flare way up, I can only imagine what the pressure would do to an 8 month pregnant woman.

Its up to you , but please consider the things that could happen.

Congrats on the new baby !

I'll add my 2 cents to the have the baby here crowd. It just seems that there is too much to go wrong in what you want to do. Why add all that extra stress to an already stressful situation? It may not be healthy for you and the baby to be going through all of that at that time of your pregnancy.

Congrats on the baby and good luck with whatever you decide!

Indeed, OP. I'm pregnant, myself, and I, too, have entertained the thought of having our child in my homeland of Australia (mainly for citizenship purposes and family time). A couple of things I had to consider, amongst those things listed above, were also flying back to the US with a little one. It's doable, but not really recommended. I've shared an air cabin with a few babies in my time, and as much as I tried to be forgiving, it's hard when the baby cries non-stop.

Families need to be generally forgiving during this time. You can't be there to please everyone. Instead, we're allowing family to come to us, which may be a possibility for you, too (my mother is visiting, and my sisters-in-law, and mother-in-law). Also, divide big occasions up. Baby's first Christmas could be celebrated with the in-laws. Baby's first birthday could be celebrated in Japan with your parents. There is a lot of compromise needed in marriage, particularly foreign unions, amonst all parties.

I'm so glad you changed your mind. The thing I think you would have problems with would be

1) airlines won't let you fly that close to giving birth

2) applying for 10year green card before leaving means you miss biometrics which results in denial

3) any complications from giving birth or trying to get baby passport to come to America can delay you meaning you might miss applying for green card or miss biometrics. Means starting process all over again.

I think it's best and won't be as hard for your fam in Japan to come over to visit. Japan isn't considered 3rd world country to so won't be too bad if thru try to come over. My in-laws are in Laos and they will probably not be able to get a visa to visit so they will wait till our baby is older then we will go visit
