List of relatives in USA

in Vietnam, they require applicant to submit a list of relatives in the US. My wife thinks she has an uncle that lives in the US, but not sure. He fled Vietnam back in the 70s and no family member has contact info since. Should she say no relatives in US, or mention him and say no info available since no contact with family for 30 years on the list of relatives in USA document to submit at interview.

I think its best to be honest throughout the entire processing and clarify where necessary.

Otherwise, its so much more difficult to explain later under the scrutiny of faking something.

I think they will understand that there was war going on (which US had a big part in)

and helpless people were doing whatever they can for survival.

That said, I had to locate someone that I had no clue where the person was

with very little info (just name and birth date), and I was able to find that person pretty quickly.

Initial search was under $10 for me, and to get all of the background I paid ~$100.

Here are some search people sites...it might be worth doing the search

and also present that as attempted evidence to locate the "uncle".

Since she wouldn't have any of his US info like drivers license, etc.

it would be really helpful, if she can correctly guess his English spelled name

and birth date.

I agree, but she's not even sure if he's still in the US or still living for the matter. They have no trace of his birthdate as documents have been lost. I wanted to be honest and I did explain in the affidavit that she thinks she has an uncle but he and her family have lost contact for over 30 years now. I"m beginning to think this was a mistake from what I've read online that declaring your relatives in the US requires proof of address, phone, etc.

My wife had the same situation when the Consulate asked her to fill out all relatives in one of form. We had lost contacted one of my aunt. We wrote down the name and Unknown for DOB, address, and phone number. We notarized the form and a little statement to explain the situation. The Consulate did not ask any question about that.

They asked my wife during her ir1 interview. She told him she has a uncle in Kansas who she hasn't seen for over 20 years and that was it. The woman didn't ask for any documents or proof that he exists. I'm not saying that they won't, but for our case they didn't care.

My fiancee does not have any relatives in the US so I asked her to type up a short statement and have it notarized. I wasn't sure if they would or would not ask her for one at the interview so I just wanted to cover all bases.
