does anyone know the name or phone number of a hotel close to the consualte, or within walking distance?? I read on a post somewhere that there is one, but I don't know how to find that post.....I need to book my hotel, like now. Thanks.

Ok, so now my question is, what is a good, cheap hotel that's located in the middle...something to too far from the consulate, close enough to the beach, and not far from the touristy things, including the Jesus statue that I really want to see....??

That "Jesus statue" is Corcovado. You sound like a tourist! That mountain-thing would be Pao de Acucar. LOL!!

The hotels mentioned are good hotels and not too expensive. I don't know hotels in the middle. When I go to Rio, I go to the beach! I always stayed at the Othon Palace. They give me the security I need and the comfort that I want. It is not the most expensive (Copaobana Palace!), but it is not a "cheap hotel".

I suggest using google. That is what I did. I've found a number of hostels (my fiance and I are not chique) in Rio in all different parts of the city.

Botafogo is not far from downtown, nor Ipanema - but there is no subway to o centro.

Hi Andrea,

I got your message. Well, I don't have much experience in hotels in Rio. I always stay with friends or family and when Scott is with me we stay at either the Le Meridien or the Sheraton (we use points!).

I heard about a hotel that's really close to the consulate, but I can't really remember the name. There are lots of hotels in Flamengo that are a bit closer to the tourist atractions and are supposedly not so expensive. And still close to the consulate (2-3 stops by subway).
