Hey guys!! When will we know if our case was already received by NVC? The only thing they told my fiancé is that they don't have our case# just yet. But does that mean they have our case already? I'm just a bit confused on what to expect from them. Our NOA2 was approved i think June16. Oh and how long does it take to get a case# from them? Thanks! :)

Hi, we are filing for the spouse IR1 visa. I don't know how comparable the time frames are, but I can tell you our experience.

NVC should have your email address and phone number from your USCIS paperwork. They will not contact you until they have received your case, assigned you a case number and activated your case on their system. Then you will receive an email, text and letter with your case number instructing you on the next step in the process.

There is absolutely no need to phone them - it will not speed up your case in any way. Sure you will know the exact date they received your case and the exact date you were assigned a case number but you still have to wait until your case is active on their system before you can proceed.

For the spousal petitions waiting time from NOA2 to NVC Case Number is roughly 6 weeks. There would certainly be no point in calling them before 6 weeks have passed.

I'm just a bit confused on what to expect from them. Our NOA2 was approved i think June16. Oh and how long does it take to get a case# from them? Thanks! :)

call them everyday in the morning as soon as they are open. Our petition was approved on June 16 as well and if you look at my time line, things moving pretty fast after NOA2. I called them a week after I got an email from USCIS stating our petition was shipped to NVC on June 19. I called every day and on July 1 when I called at 7:59am was on hold just 30 minutes no busy signal, they told me they have our petition and gave me our case number.

After we got our case number, my fiancee went to the BPI bank and paid for her visa/interview. On July 3 I looked on CEAC(thats the website you will track your case from NVC to the u.s. embassy, you will need to input your NVC case number and choose immigrant as the type of visa) the website said our petition was in transit to the consulate.

From what I was told from the agent at NVC was that K1 visa are treated much diffrent then spousal visas, with k1 visas, most of the time all they do is recieve the petition from USCIS and input it in the system and ship it on it's way to the consulate. Sometimes k1 petions are pick for extra background check at random.

Spousal visa go through a whole different process. The NVC recieve the approved petition from USCIS and then its giving a case number and then then NVC also processes the AOS, all the fees accociated with the process are paid to NVC, that's why spousal visas stay longer at NVC there are more stuff to process once all is processed NVC will give an interview date to the spousal visa, unlike a k1 visa where we have to choose our own interview date.

I know this because when I saw my petition saying in transit on CEAC, it also stated that NVC will set an interview date for youl. I was like what? So I called NVC and that was when the agent explain to me the difference between fiancé and spousal visas.

I hope this help and good luck to you!!! (:

How did you know when they received it? Text? Email? Website?

When you call NVC, they'll tell you when they got it. They will also send you a letter when your case is en route to your embassy.

Really? They send a letter? I've never received such a letter, and my timeline is very close to yours. I got text/email of NOA2 on June 20 and hardcopy in the mail June 25. Since then, nothing. I sent an email asking for case # five days ago and no reply. I tried calling two days ago but gave up after almost an hour on hold. Your timeline seems to indicate you got this letter of NVC received within three days.

They will send you a letter when your case is en route to your embassy. Not before. Once the NVC received the petition from USCIS, it takes a few days or a couple of weeks for them to scan your case into their system and assign a case number, the latter being a couple of days after they received it. Then they forward the case to your embassy. Until then you will not receive any letter in the mail.
