we are currently waiting for the instructions from the NVC on proceeding with our CR-1 visa.

I will be moving in 6 months and would like to take my wife with me.

is it worth applying for a K-3 visa at this point?

If you are already at NVC you have gone past the biggest wait in the process and even if the K3 was useful it wouldn't be worth it.

It is not lawful for USCIS to approve an I-129F for spouse AFTER the I-130 is approved. Regardless, the K3 visa stopped saving more than a few weeks of time apart, back in November, 2006. Everything you read that makes it sound like your spouse comes to the USA quickly, is misleading and out of date. Even when the K3 saved a lot of time, it was taking about as long as an immigrant spouse visa does now. It's just that K3 was taking only about a year back when the CR1 or IR1 were taking 3 to 4 years. All things are relative. Pretty much all positive things you read about the K3 are nonsensically out of date.
