HI guys,

I've just joined this awesome forum today after reading for a long time!

A little info on us, My partner and i have been together and living in Australia for the last 4 years. We are hoping to return to her home state of Cali to get married and live.

Due to the recent changes with DOMA we were advised to hire an attorney. He is handling the application but only dip feeds us with the information that we get (i.e., we only get told of each step when its about to happen)

I have a couple of questions about the application.

1. Why is there such a huge difference in processing times between the different processing centres.

2. Because we will be moving to Cali will our application get processed there? (There wait times seem the fastest)

Our application should be going in with in the next 2 weeks for the K-1 visa. From here I assumed we would get an interview date and that would be it but from reading here i see people get packets???

What else will we need to submit for these packets?

Sorry if these have all be answered a million times, no amount of googling is helping right now!

Thanks in advance.

Try posting in the Australia portal for specific information related to the P3 and interview.

Your I-129 will be sent to a central PO Box. From there USCIS will decide which office it goes to for processing, based on several criteria. You have no control.

Regarding wait times, our I-129 went to California, but at that time it was the slowest. The system is in constant flux.

We filed our AOS in October and are being told to expect the green card in June. Others filed in December and have already received the Green Card. You just have to ride it out.

lilsadie,

My partner is Australian, and I'm the USC. We've already married, but I'd be glad to write privately and answer the questions you might have. Our situations will be a little different, as you are going for the K-1, and we're doing the CR-1.

But at least we can chat! Julie is from Queensland. Where are you from?

Sukie
