I am wondering about travel into and out of the country with a name change.

My wife's advanced parole, and green card when she gets it, will be under her new married name. But, her passport from her home country is under her original name.

Will these name differences cause problems getting through US immigration check?

How about boarding a plane, especially when she is returning to this country? I have heard stories about some airlines refusing to allow someone on the plane because it did not look like they had a proper visa to the US. Will these airlines have problems with the different names on the travel documents?

I assume that this question has been asked and answered before, but I have no idea what terms to search for to find the responses. So, sorry for the redundancy.

Different last names in GC/AP from the passport won't be a problem. Just bring a copy of the marriage certificate with you when you travel to prove the name change. Some opt to get their passport renewed/changed just for the convenience of not having to carry the marriage certificate (which you could loose) but it generally isn't an issue. As far as the airlines are concerned-- as long as she has her GC and AP on hand they can't deny her from boarding the plane. Hope that helps.

Sein oder Nichtsein, das ist heir die Frage.

HollyGolightly is correct. Once my AOS was approved I asked my Immigration Attorney the same question. He said travel is fine, but to ensure I bring my marriage certificate with me. smile.png

You will have more trouble with the airlines than CBP. I would check with the airline she is planning to fly to see what they want as proof that the name on the ticket that matches the passport is the same person as named on the GC or AP document. If she travels on the AP, you may want to check with the airline that they understand that the AP is now a combo card. There was one VJ member who had troubles with an airline that thought the AP was still paper and almost did not accept the combo card--i.e. Frontier. LOT is another that has given people grief. If you stay with the major international carriers there should be not problems.

Good luck,

Dave
