Indian parents try to throw newborn girl into river, fail

A newly born girl child was thrown into a river but survived miraculously after she got stuck in the bushes on the bank in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, about 465 km north of state capital Bhopal.

A passerby, Pradeep Jatav, saw the child and informed the police. The girl, who appeared barely a day old, had sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

The baby, who was seen lying in the midst of the bushes on Wednesday, was apparently thrown from the bridge on the Sakar River. But, the bushes stopped her from rolling into the water.

Noorabad Police has registered a case in this regard and is trying to trace the family of the child.

Morena falls under the Gwalior-Chambal region and is infamous for female foeticide. The sex ratio in the area is 839 and it occupies the second position in the bottom five districts in the region.
