This is a little long, but please bear with me:

OK, I need some help. And advice. Both.
On August 2012, my husband and I filed our I-751 for Removal of Conditions. A little while later I received my Extension Letter, and I went to get my biometrics taken in September of 2012. We waited the expected 6 months. Then we waited a little longer. And longer than that. Finally, on August 2013 I filed a Service Request to find out what was going on, as my letter had expired after the one-year period in which I should've gotten either an interview or my Green Card.
We finally received an appointment for an interview, set for October 15, 2013. We gathered more evidence for it (updated lease, travel receipts, newer photos, etc) and went to the interview, which went really well. The interviewer asked us a few questions and seemed satisfied with everything but one thing-- since it had been more than one year since I'd had my fingerprints taken, he'd have to set up another appointment to get them re-done. This just seemed ridiculous to us, as it had been their fault that more than a year had gone by, but we just went with it. He told us that the Biometrics would be taken and then sent to him, after which he'd review the application again and get it sent to someone else before a final decision was taken. *sigh*
I had my Biometrics taken on December 30th. I decided to give it a good 60 days before I tried anything else. But January and February have gone by and nothing. I decided to put in ANOTHER Service Request two weeks ago, filing under "exceeding waiting times". And then I got a letter last week saying that my file was currently in a queue waiting to be scheduled for an interview!
You can imagine our frustration. What does this mean?? Shouldn't they have made some note that we had our interview? Is that done at all?
I'm not sure what I can do anymore. I've been in limbo without an extension of my residency for more than 19 months, just waiting for something to happen. So here are my questions:
Should I file for an extension while I wait for the final decision?? I want to take a trip overseas in May and I can't because my Green Card and extension letter are expired. What should I file?
Is it time to contact a lawyer?
Is there a way I can talk to an actual person who'll be able to tell me what's going on?
I'm sorry this is so long, but it's been 18 months since we filed our application, and I'm at the end of my rope here.

Your time to apply for citizenship was back in August 2013. That would have forced them to adjudicate your ROC case. Apply for citizenship immediately. You are more than eligible and it trumps residency.

Hi mariafigs, did you get a stamp in your passport after your extension expired? if not you need to make an infopass appointment and get one asap, you have been out of status for 19mths. On another note, it is uncommon to be scheduled for a second i751 interview but not unheard off. The fact that they called you for a second interview says that they suspect fraud, biometrics are also good for 2yrs I think, not sure. Strange that they would schedule another one but stranger things have happened.
