Average Sydney US Consulate VISA/Passport Recieved

On the 10th December I got approved for my K1 Visa. The lady gave me a slip saying generally 5 working days to have the visa printed and sent.

It is now the afternoon of the 19th and I still haven't heard anything from the US Consulate in Sydney. I was wondering what is the actual wait time and what would been the reason for them to be taking longer the usual.

Thank You for your help.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for the help. I sent an email but I doubt that I will get a reply from them anytime soon. For something that affects peoples lives so much they have zero to no ability to contact them with issues like these which is very poor

Hi there...have you checked the website to see the status of your visa? https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx

The Sydney consulate are pretty good at getting back to people so hopefully it won't be too long for you before you hear something.

Take care

I checked the ceac site and it says Issued. So hopefully it comes in the mail soon or I at least get an email.

Was it issued yesterday or today? If so, yes it should be to you soon :) Hope so!

When they issued my visa, I got the email the day they issued it and my visa the next business day - so if that isn't your scenario I would be feeling frustrated also and you would need to get onto the consulate asap. (Which of course I know you know, I was just saying...)...

Also when they sent my visa, Aussie Post didn't register my express post envelope, so I didn't know they had sent it until it rocked up at work - which in the end was great but I was kept in the dark (stressing, as one does :( ) unnecessarily!!

All the best to you both. Everything will come together for good for you both in the end.

Take care

I just received the email saying they are sending my passport and visa today. Fingers crossed that the ustraveldocs profile option for delivery is expressed post and they can get it to me by Monday. I still don't have a tracking number which is a little worrying.

Still the wheels are turning even if it is slowly.

Can i ask an unrelated question.. Sorry, trying to find this info on Syd consulate but cannot find anywhere. Can anyone tell me how long ahead their interview in Syd was booked? I'm about to get approval (just sent off the paper for a simple RFE) and would like to know when I can hope to expect interview after this stage. one month, three, four? Anyone's experience would be ever so helpful to me. Thank you.

That's fantastic news, thanks for the update good.gif Normally the beneficiary needs to provide the express post envelope which is how I got my tracking information. If you didn't provide one allow a few extra days to receive your visa - but by the sounds you will get it early next week which means you will be booking your flights soon (assuming they got everything right on the visa too, make sure you double check that).

Have an awesome weekend :)

Hi jajaju

Hard to say with Christmas/New Year now upon us but the average seems to be under a month at this stage. It took me a little over 2 weeks after sending in Packet 3 before I had my interview confirmed for a week and a bit after that in October this year.

However lately I have noticed it has been more like a 3 week turn around for many couples - maybe they have been trying to push through as many as they can before Christmas, hard to say but generally the Sydney Consulate moves fairly quickly vs other consulates around the globe.

All the best for you both :)

Thank you very much for your response! All other info online made me expect it'd be easily over 2 months to wait, so this was very helpful and reassuring. Thanks again.

jajaju. I had to wait 9 days from sending packet 3 to receiving my packet 4 e-mail about my interview date. I received packet 4 on Dec 05 and my interview was scheduled for Dec 24th but was eventually brought forward to Dec 20th.

The guy who interviewed me said the passport and documents would take around 2 weeks to arrive.
