Trying to find out how to convert my license. I have a dutch drivers license and need to convert it to a Massachusetts one.

I know i need to do a full written and road test. Also i need a eye test.

My question is can i go to the RMV to do the tests and do i get a license or do i need to go for the learners permit.

Hope you can help me out.

If no one knows i`ll call the RMV.

Most (all?) States do not allow you to convert, usually you just take it from scratch.

Fortunately they are very easy.

DMV I guess, info you need for your State will be on their web site.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Ha, my wife came here with an international driver's license, my auto insurance company recognized it, so she could drive the first day.

Wisconsin is the same way, she had to get a learner's permit first after taking the written test, that was easy for her. But kept on failing the driving test.

First time was not using hand over hand steering, but our car had super fast steering with only 1 1/2 turns lock to lock. In driving where she took the test, maximum rotation was more like 20 degrees. But you have to use hand over hand steering. Second was, she is a manual transmission, she accidentally put her right hand on the gear shift lever. Failed again. But she did do okay with parallel parking, since they don't have a single place to parallel park in town, had to set up a couple of saw horses on a deserted street.

She finally passed the third time, and our DMV is still way back in the 20's, Good luck with yours.

Scheduling the driver's test was pain, state eliminated practically all the DMV locations in smaller towns, had to go on the internet. With the next opening as far as three months away. If that wasn't even for them, increased the fee from 7 to 35 bucks, but at least she still could drive with her international driver's license.

Yet another pain, is that license was only good for three years, so she had to renew it with an expired condition green card with that I-551 stamp in her foreign passport. They wouldn't do that, that was too much for me, so I called the governors office, they corrected that. Super slow USCIS and a dumb DMV, at least the IRS is good on collecting taxes.

No such thing as an International Drivers License, just a Permit which is a translation of your home country license.

What ever it was, my insurance company accepted it as valid in this country. Our DMV issued a driver's license to kid that was retarded that ended up doing me a lot of damage. In a court of law, the DMV is not even liable for this, but the insurance companies sure are. Not even sure why we have a DMV since they are not liable.

They even cancel driver's test if there is a quarter of an inch of snow on the ground, and just drive around town a few blocks. Nothing on highway or interstate driving and all done under 25 miles. Just about next to worthless as they can be, but yet the law.

But our state is trying to pass a new law to give the DMV even more responsibility, to issue either a driver's license or a state ID so we can vote.

Yet another issue, was with both my wife and stepdaughter, made darn sure they checked that LPR box, and not a US citizen, or would be in deep trouble with the USCIS. In many states, you not only get a drivers' license but are registered to vote. Watch that. They wanted to see their green cards. But others in head of us, with no identification whatsoever that claimed to be a US Citizen and looked all enough. All they wanted to see was a completely worthless utility bill for proof.

After all the problems we had with an expired green card and that I-551 stamp in wife's foreign passport, I did go in there to show them her naturalization certificate. We don't have to see that, next time she comes in, just have her check that I am a US citizen box.

Does this sound crazy? Sure does to me.

i need to have a work auth. card to get my drivers license. its pretty stuppid how some states work. But it is what it is. I will be fun. Drive over there to get the learners permit then drive back and if i fail the road test i still can drive legally. But i need to have my mass. license want to buy a car and for the insurance you need to have a mass. license.

Im on the insurance off my wifes car even her parents. All off then accepted my dutch license without any problems. Will see what kind off problems are ahead. Will have to take them 1 at the time.

Yeah, that EAD card, we got that so I could add my wife to my bank accounts, but held off with her driver's license until she received her green card. Was no rush on that.

Ha, ask your agent if he ever heard of the USCIS. The US what? Don't you mean the NCIS, that TV show?

If you get even a parking ticket, save that receipt you paid it, will have long delays for your US citizenship. Wife was a good girl, stepdaughter did receive a 50 buck fine some four years ago. Wouldn't give her, her certificate until we provided proof of payment. That took some time to get. Never drive when intoxicated, then you will screwed for sure.
