Can I Sign I-134 for someone else after signing I-864Ez for my spouse

Not sure whether i am posting this question on right place or not. If I am not posting on right forum then I apologize for this. I am posting here because, as far as I know, K-1 processing step requires I-134 and I think I can have someone in this forum who can answer me.

I am USC and I married non-USC who is current residing in her home country waiting for her CR-1 visa process to complete. NVC has already been completed the case and we are currently waiting for Interview at US Embassy. I have filed I-864Ez form for my wife on AOS ( Affidavit of Support) stage.

So my question is, Can I be a co-sponsor for my friend( non- USC) who needs someone to sign I-134 ? I have already signed I-864Ez for my spouse, does it prohibit me to sign I-134 for my friend? Does Signing I-134 for my friend effects my wife's CR-1 Visa Processing?

I want to help my friend, but at the same I want to make sure I am doing things in correct and legal way. According to US Federal Poverty guidelines, My income level is enough to sponsor upto 7 people. My friend is trying to get admission in college and his college wants him to have someone who can sign I-134 for him. I am not knowledgeable on I-134, what are the legal bindings of I-134?

You can sign and sponsor for as many as your income will allow. In your case it does not really matter than you signed an I-864 for your wife. Your wife would be counted in your household size for sponsorship whether you signed an affidavit for her or not.

Responsibilities as a Sponsor

When you sign the affidavit of support, you accept legal responsibility for financially supporting the sponsored immigrant(s) generally until they become U.S. citizens or can be credited with 40 quarters of work. Your obligation also ends if you or the individual sponsored dies or if the individual sponsored ceases to be a permanent resident and departs the United States.

Note: Divorce does NOT end the sponsorship obligation.

If the individual you sponsored receives any "means-tested public benefits," you are responsible for repaying the cost of those benefits to the agency that provided them. If you do not repay the debt, the agency can sue you in court to get the money owed. Any joint sponsors or household members whose income is used to meet the minimum income requirements are also legally responsible for financially supporting the sponsored immigrant.

You are welcome. Forgot to answer your other question about the legalities of the I-134. The I-134 is not a legally binding contract and you will not be stuck sponsoring someone, as per the info posted above, when signing the I-134. Those only apply to signing an I-864 for someone. The I-864 that is supplied when a K-1 files to adjust status is the legally binding contract, so be aware of that if your friend asks you to sign an I-864 to be joint sponsor for their AOS too..
