Saw Heinz baked beans for under $2 at Fresh Market last week. It was the cheapest I have seen them yet. Very happy Tim doesn't miss things like this. I have been wanting clotted cream and they had this as well in a jar at a whopping price of $6!!! If I can ever find non ultra pasturized cream I will make my own.

I see Tesco catering to the American public.

I hope Tesco's will offer some of the British items and at reasonable prices. Right now I can get the Heinz baked beans for $1.45, but things like Toffee pudding or Spotted ####### are $5.95, which is ridiculous! And $3.65 for a tiny bottle of HP sauce! UGH!!!! Give me a break!!! The mark up on these items is way out of line. And online purchasing is no better - my man is here for his first US Christmas but I wanted to make sure we incorporated some British elements - well I had to pay $35 for 12 Christmas Crackers!!! This included shipping that was $11!!

Please Tesco give the people what they want in the US - reasonably priced British foods!!!!

This news was released a few months ago. Back then the plan was to open Tescos Metro stores so they wouldn't be that big anyway. The other problem is that yes, they will probably only cater to the US market. They will sell what people want to buy, and that is US foods...sadly. Like someone else said, Shaws was partly owned by Sainsbury. It didn't stock any Brit food apart from a small International area, and though Shaws did smarten up their act, they still had a long way to go before they resembled a decent supermarket. That is what I miss...Waitrose and Sainsbury's down the road. :(

(Julez, they sell Christmas crackers in a lot of stores now...Christmas Tree shop, Pier 1, Williams Sonoma...)

At least Tesco has food on the shelves in the UK! Everytime we go to Asda's, empty or half empty shelves all over the store.

I truly hope the US Tesco's stock UK food!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shaws beats Hannaford hands down though...

I actually found both Bisto powder and instant on the regular shelves the other day - not even in the international aisle! Since my local British goods store burnt down, I was a happy bunny to find that.

I'm sure Tesco will take it's sweet-azz time working it's way up to Maine; we're only ten years or so behind the rest of the country

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Paul and I also found crackers at World Market, Macy's and a couple of other places.

Come on Michigan - get a Tescos! I'm willing to travel to Lansing or Detroit. They had a really good Tesco brand spaghettit sauce - nice and spicy. Paul newman's sackrooni is nice, but we still need to add some spices to give it some kick.

Meijers has a large international foods section. They have lots of British foods at reasonable prices.

That's where we hit - and the more you buy the bigger the section gets -it's doubled at our Meijer. World Markets has a decent selection and decent prices as well.

In the Orange County Business Journal today there was an announcement that Tesco is going to open two stores within the next year in California, one in Laguna Hills and one in Fullerton with more stores to follow, planning to spend $490 million on US expansion. They are currently evaluation 300 sites on the West Coast and have already purchased a warehouse facility in Riverside County.

Wow, and Wal Mart has moved to the UK disguised as Asda!!

Does this mean marmite, Heinz beans and real marmalade? Now that would be great :luv:
