Good morning,

If this is in the wrong spot, I apologize. It just seemed to go with the interview prep part. I'm the USC, my fiance is Welsh and we're going through the K1 process. I am self-employed and last year did make over the 125% poverty guideline with child support included. The child support is documented in the divorce settlement (fiance has those papers) and shown as direct deposit from court (have print out of bank statement).

Since I am self-employed I also have the letters from my bank stating date account opened, deposits for last year (I assumed they meant last 12 calendar months, not 2012 - please correct me if that's wrong!), and current balances. My current balances obviously are somewhat different from the I-134 paperwork stating amount in savings since my income tends to ebb/flow and I move money between savings/checking accts. I'm assuming that's a non-issue.

My income this year will be higher than last year. At this stage (September) I have already passed the 125% poverty guideline and would like to document this. I'm only a few thousand above the 125% for 2012 so I feel it'd be worthwhile to show I'll be HIGHER above it for 2013.

Will they read the letter? Is it worth doing or will they simply look at the amts deposited into my two bank accounts? I just feel like this process would be way more straight forward if I had a "real" job and didn't own a business. :)

Also on I-134 I have more dependents than what fits on the lines for #8. Can I simply type up an answer to that and sign it to include it similar to the additional info on I-129F?

Finally, a sincere and grateful thank you to those who hang around here and help us out. I don't know if/when I will return to VJ after we're all through this process. It has been such an emotional roller coaster, mostly due to the self-employment issue and also the different guidelines for fiance vs. spouse. Thank you!

You will find London is very flexible with the I-134. If your tax return, line 22, shows above the poverty level, they will not likely worry about all that other documentation.

Extra pages? Sure. Write "see attached" on the form and add a page listing the kids.

Will they read a letter? The first time anybody looks at your stuff is when you hand it over at the Interview. Why write a letter? Tell them in person.

Try this. The first window you are called to at London is a document collector clerical worker. He/she does not decide on the case so no explanation to her. Hand in the I-134 and tax return with it.

The next window you are called to is the interviewer. If there is any need to discuss financials, then fiance can pull out your bank statements, court orders, etc and explain away. It is not going to be as hard as you fear. Put sticky notes on things so your fiancé can explain them if there is a need for more than the tax return.
