Still did not get SSN! please help for advice.

I came to USA in june.I got temporary green card around in 20 days after i arrived USA.

But still I did not got my ssn.we fill in one of the form that we require ssn.

Any body still did not get ssn?

If you already got,how many days it took for you to get ssn?

I and my husband thinking of going to local office and apply for ssn.

Is it good for us to do like this.

uhm - you came in on CR-1 visa or IR-1 visa?

it's been 15 days (or more) since POE date?

get into a SSA office, apply in VISA name, asking clerk to look you up in SAVE database by visa name or visa number (A#)

then

go back next day, can get printout of number, or learn of problems about your name.

I am just guessing here that you checked the box on one of the forms indicating you are requesting a SSN. From my understanding that doesn't always work. It is best to go to the local Social Security office and apply for a SSN there. As long as all of your paperwork is in order, you should have no problem.

We gave a call to SSN office ,they told us that they did not have any case with my name in their database.

She told us to wait for one or two weeks or check with local SSN office .We also called local SSN office,they told us that they do not give SSN information over the phone.

So we are thinking of going to SSN office and apply for it.

You are correct! I had checked a box on one of the forms requesting for SSN.

I have been waiting for SSN number for almost more than couple of months.

It's been 23 days and my husband has not received his either. I called the Social security office Friday. The lady said that it's been taking up to 6 weeks.

I asked if we could go to the local office and apply and she said no. That the local office will not process if it's been less than 6 weeks do to people getting 2 SSN issued.

Isn't it great when SSA folk make up stuff over the phone?

Seriously, what 'drives' the validity to apply, is yer existence in the SAVE database system. Usually you can be found there by day 15 past POE. Many times sooner.

I almost completed more than couple of months..but no SSN till now.

So I recently went to local SSN office and applied for it.

we explained to the officer (who processed our application for SSN)about our situation then she told that after waiting

for 21 days from the arrival to USA if you still did not get SSN,you can come to office and apply for it.

By reading your post I understand that they are telling the same answer to everyone.

I waited and wasted alot of time by waiting.So I recommend you to go to local office and apply for SSN.

ok la. Now, I fully expect you to be in the office on Tuesday morning, asking for a SAVE database lookup on yer visa name and/or A#.

I will try to get off early tomorrow to take my husband and try at the local office. I didn't try because the lady said the local office would turn us away because it had been less than 6 weeks.

IMO, 'the lady' was dead wrong. What makes success or failure at the SSA office, is a lookup in the SAVE database, on you, via visa name and/or visa number. Usually these are loaded by day 15 past POE date. usually. Some folk get a faster load, as the POE data entry team is more efficient.
