Hello;

I sent my finance in Manila, the document package for interview, & she also wanted me to send her the engagement ring. I sent them both to her through FedEx, for around $80.00. I was then notified that the package was stuck, at customs; & to make a long story short, they needed $206, for what I estimated to be $500 value ring. They ended up charging 211.66 for duties, & taxes, & 27.69 for Brokerage Ancillary Service Fees. I wasn't happy about it but paid the 239.35, which was almost half the value of the ring, but she did get the package.

Now over a month later, fedex sent me a record of an additional, $302.63, for Storage fee, $425.25, for deconsoidation fee,$89.27 value added tax, & $15.00 documentation fee, & a $1.04 service change. So an additional, $833.19, along with the $239.35. Total $1,072.54 for a ring I valued at $500. I agreed to the 239.35, but would of had them send it back or keep it, for an additional 833.19 which I never agreed to pay.

This is supposed to be a broker as well, but I already paid a brokerage fee with the 239.35.

What's going on here?

Thanks, for any insight;

I'm pretty sick to my stomach, but can't talk to fedex until tomorrow.

That's sounds like somebody trying to con you for some money. Don't pay that, that maybe some kind of fraud or they may have sent you someone else bill.

Keep it Real

I am very sad and worried that you did send the engagement ring without fear. You could have sent the receipt of the ring instead of the ring itself. But what's done has been done.

The thing is, Manila Customs do open every package arriving in the Philippines and sometimes it gets lost. Glad yours didn't. BUT, Philippines is Philippines, there will always be crocodiles inside, worst case scenario that might have experienced, is if some scumbag stole your ring and change it to a fake one. But good luck, FedEx will not release a parcel if not being paid. Deconsolidation fee is RIDICULOUS. Try talking to a manager or a store supervisor and have re-calculate everything.

Hello;

Thanks, for replies. Well, my package was released, & delivered, & I paid the $239.35 for that. This was for taxes, duties, & brokerage, but now they're adding $833.19. So I don't plan on paying it, but I want to fix this situation with FedEx. She already got the ring, & documents around 6-7-13. I just got these additional charges 8-18-13.

Thanks,

Rob_D

Horse is already out of the barn type thing here. But I would have NEVER sent the ring (or anything of too much value that way) to the Philippines... as THAT is just what happens. Either kiss the ring good-bye and start anew or grit your teeth and keep paying fees.

Chalk it up to education fees.

Customs is very strict with these kind of things.

I sent our documents through my work's warehouse shipping department and they kept stressing to make sure that only documents for immigration papers was in the box or I'd have to deal with a ton of issues with my package clearing customs. Our warehouse ships a lot of international packages and has had experiences with all types of customs issues. They mentioned even if i was sending manuals for resale (just papers) there would be problems with customs. Our package didn't get opened though, i sent it through a box and had it security sealed with a special security tape. I guess when xrayed and an object is seen with with papers they'll open it. We also used fedex.

Have you tried calling fedex? Maybe they can waive all the fees from the second set of charges. They are usually nice to deal with, well at least easier than UPS. Our fedex agent comes here twice a month and I can try to find out what she would recommend for the next step.

When the first time you sent it, did you tell them that the package contains a ring?

Or you sent it without telling them that the package contains a ring?

Your fiancee got the ring 2 months ago and now they are sending you another bill? That's #######, $1000+ for a $500 ring.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED. DO NOT PAY IT.

What are they going to do if you don't pay?

What would he kiss the ring good-bye? His finacee has the ring. Are they going to go and demand that she return it?rofl.gif

I wouldn't pay a dime, especially 2 months after the fact.

Hello;

I thank everyone for replying. I did talk to fedex. Apparently these charges that I got through fedex were a print out, or an attempted explanation of the charges that I already incurred. What confused me, & I appoligize for a bit of a goose chase, is these charges were an explanation in pesos. 833.19, which is around 19.60 dollars, which still really explains nothing to me about my 239 dollars charges. I'm not used to getting things from fedex, in pesos, so I thought it was dollars an apologize for any confusion.

I agreed to the $239 reluctantly in June, to get the ring & documents to her, which it apparently did, & Fedex at this point said they're are no additional charges. I'm not totally regrettfull of the post though, seeing so many people have had bad expierences with customs, & package delievery to the Philippines. It's a lesson to me, & I hope to others, to really be carefull, sending things to the philippines. It might not be business as usual.

.

Thanks, again;

Well, I'm a big fan of FedEx,

my fiance sent my engagement ring with FedEx (he had the ring resized) and arrived safely.

Of course he let them know that the package contains a ring, he never had any issue with any charges cuz it was included in the first payment.

My experience is limited to VN so I know it's not directly relevant but - I'm not a fan of Fed Ex either. I ship often to Vietnam using a company called Viet Link (here in Orange County). I can ship a five pound box for $15 and it will arrive in SGN in a week (delivery to home or office). Viet Link inspects the contents and collects customs taxes on this end (electronics like iPads are taxed heavily...I always carry these with me to VN and never ship for tax and potential theft reasons).

We've never had a box opened or delayed. I'm not naive - I am sure they are receiving preferential treatment. Fed Ex would cost 5 times as much and my guess is the package would sit in customs for a while.

Not everyone has easy access to a shipper like this but if you can find one that specializes in shipping to the country of your interest I'd recommend looking into it.

Ah..also...Viet Link ships to the US (costs about 3 times as much in that direction) but they are faster than any other type of post out of VN and are very careful with what they ship. Personal experience seeing things broken using the standard post office in SGN.
