House Republicans to vote on most restrictive abortion bill in a decade

Republicans in Washington and in state capitals across the country seem eager to reopen the emotional fight over a woman’s right to end a pregnancy. Their efforts will move to the forefront on Tuesday when House Republicans plan to bring to the floor a measure that would prohibit the procedure after 22 weeks of pregnancy — the most restrictive abortion bill to come to a vote in either chamber in a decade.

The bill stands no chance of becoming law, with Democrats in control of the Senate and the White House. Republican leaders acknowledge that its purpose is to satisfy vocal elements of their base who have renewed a push for greater restrictions on reproductive rights, even if those issues harmed the party’s reputation with women in 2012.

...

On the eve of the House vote, the Obama administration released a statement late Monday opposing the bill, saying it “shows contempt for women’s health and rights.”

They are just stupid. I know they are playing to the base, but expending so much capital on something they have been beat to death about is insane. For Gods sake please don;t let one of those idiots start spouting off about rape during the debate

I bet the ** Dems are just licking their lips at this foray into foolishness.

It is as though they are trying to legislate that water should be wet.

At 22 weeks chances are a woman will carry through the pregnancy and have an abortion only if the fetus should be putting her life at risk.

I already heard a republican quoted saying rape related abortions were a small number. I don't recall which.

Sort of like Repubs did when a certain US ambassador was murdered while a Democrat was president.

Being black and unborn are the same. You're right.

The fetus is the new colored person. So, Rethuglicans are not attacking women's rights, they're in the middle of a civil rights campaign for the fetus. If you care to buy into that bullchit. Personally, I do not.

I thought he might be comparing an adult human to a person that does not exist yet. I didn't think even he was that dumb. I guess I was wrong.

These religious nuts on the right seem to be into birth certificates. How can they consider a fetus a person if they don't have a birth certificate?
