CLYDE, N.Y. (AP) — A man who says he caught four boys vandalizing his father-in-law's home has been charged with child endangerment after corralling them in a closet until police arrived.

Jesse Daniels was arraigned on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child after authorities say he interrupted the vandalism at the empty home in the Wayne County village of Clyde, midway between Rochester and Syracuse.

The boys have been charged with burglary and criminal mischief. Their cases are being handled in Wayne County Family Court.

Paul Bowler, the father of two of the boys, told the station that there are no excuses for his sons' actions.

"I understand they were in the wrong, but there are other ways to handle it," he said. "He (Daniels) knew who the kids were. It's not like they were strangers. And send the kids home and call the cops then. You don't sit there and torment them and tell them you're going to bash their skulls in with a hammer."

Yep, seriously. He should be charged.

Seriously....!!!

Come on, what was the guy suppose to do?

If it was my kid I'd be totally ok with his detention; highly embarrassed and irritated but I'd approve.

I think this is crazy.

The guy knew the kids. He knew where they lived. Could have called the cops and let them deal with it.

is many places - that's a label of 'unlawful imprisonment'

so really, what's the best way to detain the interlopers whilst the police are enroute?

I get that...but all of them could have denied it and it would be his word against theirs?

Catching them at the scene of the crime is the easiest way to asses guilt.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but when I was a kid that wouldn't make the paper...except the fact they were caught.

Dude comon when do parents teach their kids what is right or wrong? I guess now days parents dont care about it.

The guy did not hurt the kids he took away their hammer and held them in the closet until police arrived.

As per you from your other comments should not be that long as police would have responded promptly, maybe around 10 mins? Seriously kids were hurt coz they were held in closet for 10 mins....

How about parents not paying attention to their kids, them walking into a contruction zone without adult supervision is that not child endagerment?

I teach my kid. All the kids my daughter plays with are taught by their parents as well. I take it not all parents do that but I would suggest that the majority of parents do teach their kids right from wrong. It appears that the father of two of the kids involved in the story will have a word or two with his kids as well. Sounded to me that he acknowledged what the kids did was wrong and that they should be punished for it. Let us not pretend that all parents neglect their parental duties. It's not that bad.

He should have just shot them.

Word. Instant justice. Only in Gunnuttistan...

Not sure how they do it in other States but in Florida you shoot them then claim self defense.
