We've just sent our documents, but I like planning things ahead.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed until everything will be (hopefully) approved but there's one thing I've been wondering about... do you have to send pictures of your wedding to the USCIS once you get married?

Because I don't think we'll do anything extravagant, we're both young (aka need to save money) and we both feel comfortable with a small group of people, so we were thinking of getting married at the court and inviting few close family members and friends, would that be ok?
It may sound like a weird question, I know...

What visa are you applying for?

If you fill out your timeline, people will be able to assist you faster and more accurately. Plus the data you enter will go towards the timelines all of us use to plan our journey :)

**** Moving from Off Topic to AOS from Family Visa as OP seems to be going the K1 fiance visa route****

OP- please fill in your timeline and profile so we can answer you better.

If your intention is indeed to get a K1 fiance visa, you won;t marry until after you have your visa, so there won;t be any wedding photos until the next step, Adjustment of Status. It is a good idea to show a photo or two of the wedding if you have an AOS interview, but they will understand if you have a small ceremony/ only go to the justice of the peace. A lot of couples do that, even if they intend a big wedding later, because you are supposed to get married within 90 days of entering the US on a K1.

Thank you, that's what I was wondering about in the first place anyway. We know it all has to happen within 90 days and it seems like we won't have much time to plan anything at all. :/

That's exactly what we did. My wife and stepson arrived on 26 July, we got married by a municipal court judge on 30 July. The wedding party, consisting of the bride and groom, stepson, two witnesses, then enjoyed a memorable dinner at the Seattle Space Needle. Quick and simple.

Good luck.

How is it that you got married so quickly? I thought we have to wait at least 2 weeks for the SSN alone, and then get a marriage certificate and then get married.

Well, either way, thanks for letting me know.

I hope that just cause it was a small ceremony the USCIS didn't give you a hard time or anything.

You don;t need SSN to get married; each state has different rules- in some, like Vegas (and I guess Seattle) you can marry very fast.

Yep, check the marriage license requirements for where you're to be married. Some counties and states have waiting periods before the license takes effect and some don't. We had a three day waiting period in Portland, for example.

A&B as well as ours was similar, arrival, get social, drivers license, get married with 25 people and a trip to Las Vegas. Apply 30 days later and eventually done, in 10 months. One thing that was suggested to me is put any and all evidence in one place for your AOS and eventually ROC.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

We only had a small wedding as well, only 10 guests, ceremony at the courthouse and dinner in the evening. I didn't include any photos with the I-485 application, but I will bring pictures for the interview as proof. Anyway, not taking any pictures cannot be a reason for denial.

The form that we filled out to get the marriage license here in Southern California in October of last year did not require SSN. After our wedding two months after, we went back to the county records office and gave back the form which was already signed by our two marriage witnesses and the person who officiated the ceremony. Then we were ask to go back to pick up the original copies of marriage certificate (I cannot remember how long but should be within 1-2 weeks). We requested for 2 copies.

As for the pictures, you may or may not include them when you send in your AOS package but do so during the interview. It is stated in our notice letter for interview that photos are part of what they ask us to bring.

Good luck on your journey! =)

I think in Ohio I'd need to have one, so I read I'd have to wait 10-14 days to apply for a SSN and then wait until it arrives.

Just trying to gather as much info as possible.

Hi

I arrived in the US on a K1 visa November 2012, applied for a marriage licence 01/14/13 at the court house, got married the same day to my USC Husband, no waiting time. We then went back the following day and requested and collected 2 copies of our marriage certificates, costing $10.00. No SSN was required...we live in Georgia..

Good Luck to all you ppl here on VJ..good.gif

Did you call and ask them if its required at your county court house where you would get the marriage license?

Just because you think its needed doesn't mean it is and you may be making it take much longer than it needs to. Sometimes the SSN takes FOREVER to arrive. Some cant even get an SSN until they have the green card because the SS office decides to be difficult and not do anything until they see a green card.
