hi everyone i got here in USA last june 3 , i was confused if i should apply for social security number direct to there office or should i wait automatically through mail after the port of entry ?

I also have the same question. POE june 13, 2013. I checked the box on the ds 230 about assigning ssn for us (me and my 4yr old daughter. We havent received anything yet.

Cazy888: have u not receive your ssn card too? I am wondering that they might send it together with the green card already thats why it took long?

I will try to call the social security hotline tomorrow and check if they have assigned a number for me and get it so i can apply for work while waiting for the actual card to arrive.

It could also take 30 days after POE for you to receive the SSN card.
