Interview scheduled for Wednesday... Very nervous!

Hey everyone. Like many others, I guess I am just opening a thread to get support to calm my nerves. My fiancee will have her interview in Ulaanbaatar on 5/22... It means a lot to me because if she is approved, I keep my job, continue living in the U.S., and can be around my parents. If she gets denied, I put in my notice at work and move overseas, so I have a lot riding on it.

Luckily, the embassy has been really helpful with regards to scheduling the document drop off and the interview itself. She dropped off her documents (evidence, forms, etc.) last Friday, so the embassy will have a chance to review all of the proof that I could come up with that our relationship is legit. I basically sent everything I could think of -- photos, phone records, copies of letters I wrote the kids on their birthdays (it almost felt somehow wrong of me to save a copy to send as evidence), certification that I speak Mongolian, sample writing in Mongolian, copies of my Mongolian working visas with stamps of all the time I spent there (over 1.5 years) with her... everything but the kitchen sink.

I am worried that they will ask something really obscure and she won't be able to answer, like "What would your fiance's father order if he were to go to an Indian restaurant" or something of the like, and try to find something they can deny her for. She doesn't speak English, so I made sure that I proved that we are perfectly capable of communicating in her language... I don't think they can deny her for that.

Anyway, any tips, experiences, etc. will help to calm my nerves on this very important step.

I've seen some of your earlier postings and due to your unique situation, I've kinda been following with interest. You certainly have a challenge and I am rooting for the best possible EASIEST outcome for you! I don't know that I could do it, but my hat is off to you and your fiance. You sound SO well prepared and I'm sure she has gotten everything she needs from you ... I can't see any reason why they would deny when you have done everything above and beyond the norm to prove your relationship and intentions.

GOOD LUCK and please keep us updated! :)

I'm rooting for you as well! :) I'm sure she's prepared and ready and will be approved in no time! :) Everything will be great! :)

BTW, out of personal curiosity, how are you going to make the transition (moving to the US) as painless as possible if your fiancee doesn't speak English? Will she take classes or hopefully pick up the language in every day situations? (Excuse my question if it's too personal, but it comes from my professional curiosity ;) ) Good luck again! star_smile.gif

Well, the plan is for her to take intensive English classes during the period between marriage and permission to work. The kids will be able to learn English at school. I don't think they will struggle too much, because I speak both and can generally help whenever it's needed.

What would Xenu do?

This is driving me crazy. 30 hours away from the interview, and I have been in a continual state of freaking out. I don't think I have ever been this nervous in my life.

This pretty much sums up how I feel:

Dude, c'mon you guys are fine! Be calm and don't let her sense your anxiety. Time for the poker face!

The consular staffers are not there to try and trip her up with off the wall questions. From what you have said you have submitted, they will already pretty well have their decision made and will ask a few things to confirm what they have seen in your documents and photos.

I have been on VJ for a couple of years now and compared to what I have read about other places, Ulaanbaatar is one of the more sensible consular posts.

Bayaraa and I have actually had the opportunity to meet and chat with Ambassador Addleton who was quite engaging and interested in our backgrounds.

Anyway, don't sweat, worry is an abuse of the imagination.
