There was a thread few days back on the difficulties of obtaining Indian Police Certificate unless you have this request in writing by the US Embassy, if I remember correctly.

Where is this thread?

Also, it seems my Hubby is unable to obtain Police Certificate till he gets appointment notice for Visa Interview

What wording shall I use on the IV cover letter to explain why he cannot get Police Certificate, and that he will get one for the Visa Interview.

Thanks!

Some police city process requires you should have something in writing to get PCC.

It all depends on the which city/state he is living... (I think he is from Gugrat, I know lot of people had issues with getting PCC from Gugrat without interview letter)

From your timelines, it appears that you have paid your IV fee... Don't get any letter or email from NVC that has barcode to send DS230 with all documents.

You can use that letter to get PCC.

Once your hubby sent out IV PACKAGE to NVC, you just have to wait untill it get received and reviewed. it would get reviewed after 2-3 weeks of received date (MINE WAS REVIWED IN 14 DAYS AFTER IT WAS RECEIVED OR DELIVERED).

Once it is reviewed and accepted, you will get CHECKLIST for PASSPORT POLICE CERTIFICATE in E-mail along with any missing documents that were not submiited in IV package.

Your hubby will have to obtain PCC from local regional PASSPORT OFFICE Or PSK depending upon where he lives. To obtain PCC he will have to filled out online application form from PASSPORTINDIA.GOV.IN and submiit along with PASSPORT XEROX, CHECKLIST COVER LETTER OF PCC, $230 FEE RECEIPT. He has to submit in-person to local Passport office. If his passport is 6 months older, he will get PCC hand to hand without POLICE INQUIRY. If the passport is older than 6 months then he will eligible for Police inquiry and will get PCC after it

Be advised that In india, WITHOUT HAVING PCC CHECKLIST LETTER from NVC, PASSPORT OFFICE is not issuing PCC.So, tell your husband to send in IV package as soon as possible. dont waste time on thinking on PCC.

You are wrong. This issue has come up number of times in this forum. The answer to your post is depend on where you live in India. Passport offices in some states have strict rules that they produce evidence showing the need for PCC. People from Gujarat have had this issue as many discussed in this forum and we all know why it is so.

In other states, no questions asked, PCC is issued right away. In our passport office, we got PCC within few hours- only question asked was for which country you require a PCC so that name of the country is printed in the PCC.

Be advised that In india, WITHOUT HAVING PCC CHECKLIST LETTER from NVC, PASSPORT OFFICE is not issuing PCC.So, tell your husband to send in IV package as soon as possible. dont waste time on thinking on PCC.

NVC email replied:

" Be advised that PCC is not required for NVC to complete the case, you can bring it at the time of the Interview "

Better not to wait and waste the time on PCC, rather sending IV package without it.

Hello Guys,

Can anyone please answer following query to get police certificate from local police station?

I had been recited in different cities of India (Ahmedabad,Mumbai,Pune), how can i get local police certificate(Not passport clearance one) from my previous locations Ahmedabad/Mumbai?

Do police officials provide police certificate for previous years during when i had been recited in that city?

What document do they ask for getting the same?

Regards

I've heard in some places, they want letter from NVC that requests police certificate. Other places give the police certificate without question.
