The bill failed because the NRA threatened to take away their NRA favorable ratings. The NRA is more of a threat to their phony-baloney jobs than a bunch of slaughtered school children.

The NRA? A threat? Not so.

It's the 40-50 million non-NRA members who own guns and who got pissed when the bill became just another way to skim money.

Thought you claimed that the NRA was overrated......LOL

i don't get it.

If the background checks had been a standalone bill, and not tied up with extraneous features such as the ban on assault-type weapons, could it have passed the Senate vote?

for the record, the schumer bill that reid introduced included a national registration requirement.

it didn't stand a chance.

the toomey amendment to the schumer bill scrubbed that registration, but included a mandatory "lost or stolen" clause, creating de-facto registry.

it didn't stand a chance.

the crazy ####### fineswine attached her ### weapons ban 4 times, with small changes in wording.

none of the 4 attachments stood a chance.

the only vote held was in regard to the toomey amendment. it failed, so no vote was held on the nasty old hag's 4 attachments.

the 90% (now 65%) of Americans who supposedly support this ####### don't even know what it contains. the toomey amendment had lots more than just a "background check" in text, and the schumer text was heinous in misrepresentation. so is the average "poll" that is held up to try to lend credence to the insanity. if you poll 100 new jersey housewives, you are gonna get 90% gun control support. enuf said about that.

in any case, enacting legislation that is repugnant to the Constitution is a huge waste of time and money. this ####### is just gonna be struck down, anyway. Constitutional rights cannot be stripped on basis of emotion. let's pray they grow up and stop trying, or just start dying. first on the list, fineswine, then laffenberg, then old chuckie slummer..

One can hope that the day is not far away that NRA support for a politician will be seen as such a negative that all our slimy 'sold to the highest bidder' politicians, of both parties, will run away from any association with the NRA and will want to be recognized as voting AGAINST them to get a coveted 0% NRA rating!

i was sure hoping that USA solar company would've stayed in business, even if long enough to purchase some congressman.

The NRA is positioning itself so far to the right that it is well out of the mainstream in political thinking. Unless they start moving back to the center they will more and more be percieved as part of the problem more than part of the solution by independents, 'Reagan' democrats, and moderate republicans. As this happens the value of getting the endorsement of the NRA may move into solidly negative territory.

Is that the reason you saw NRA membership jump when anti-gun lobby started their propaganda?

I am sure by now you know all of the polls could be skewed either way, so majority wanted background check does not hold any water.

Seriously if anti-gun lobby would just ask the administration why only few cases are being pursed and few charges are bought against the ppl who try to buy gun illegally?

They already have 1000’s of name and they choose to go after fraction of them. New law would add more ppl to that thousand but if administration is not going to take any action whats the point of that huge list.
