Who would've thought they would be this difficult to find a job in New York City? I've been looking for a job for over year now and still haven't had any luck.

05/22/2012 - MAILED AOS PACKAGE.
06/04/2012 - RECEIVED NOTICE IN THE MAIL.
06/04/2012 - RECEIVED BIOMETRICS APPOINTMENT IN THE MAIL.
06/06/2012 - WALK IN BIOMETRICS COMPLETED.
07/11/2012 - TEXT AND EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS OF I-485 INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT.
07/13/2012 - RECEIVED HARD COPY OF INTERVIEW NOTICE IN THE MAIL.
07/28/2012 - EAD CARD PRODUCTION ORDER.
08/04/2012 - EAD CARD IN HAND.
08/15/2012 - GC INTERVIEW. APPROVED. PASSPORT STAMPED.
08/20/2012 - GC CARD PRODUCTION ORDERED.
08/23/2012 - GC RECEIVED.

06/28/2014 - MAILED I-751 PACKAGE

What have you done so far? What's your background?

I've applied for a bunch on Craigslist and I've tried indeed and monster.

I don't have tons of education. So I suppose that's my problem.

Most jobs in the US I have found are through referral, from a friend or business associate. If you have education, try a head hunter.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Have you visited an agency to try getting placed for a temp position? If you've applied for a number of jobs and have not received any responses, then it's time to get thee to an agency so they can review your résumé and work with you on securing temp or temp-to-permanent employment. Also, check with your area community college and/or your local library system to see if they offer job-hunting/job skill classes.

Also, depending on the type of work for which you've applied, you may need to reset expectations based on your actual qualifications for now until you've gained experience working in the U.S.

Employment agencies offer temp-to-permanent positions as well as temp options. If the agency you tried didn't offer temp-to-perm, then find one in your area that does.

What's your background if you don't mind my asking?

What kind of work did you do before?

Make sure your résumé is strong, it wouldn't hurt to contact a résumé writing service. they can just look it over and make sure its a good layout and there are no errors.

But word of mouth works the best in NY I think.

Tell any and everyone you are looking for a job so they can let you know if they hear about any opportunities.

Depending on where you live as well. My wife barely knows English and got a job working 9.50/hour as a general laborer. Which is paid the same as working at Wal-Mart, Sears, etc...as customer service people. I was surprised as well.

General Laborer positions are pretty much low skilled.

10/12/2012: NOA 1
12/17/2012: NOA 2 (case was transferred to NYC office 11/27/12)
NVC stage ( 20 days)
01/08/2013: Case # and IIN assigned ( file arrived NVC mail room 12/20/12)
01/09/2013: AOS invoiced and paid, DS-3032 emailed and mailed.
01/16/2013: IV invoiced &paid. AOS & IV mailed in one package(arrived 01/18).
01/28/2013: Case complete!!!
04/19/2013: Interview; APPROVED!!!!!
