‘I am willing to give up some of my constitutional rights … to be safer’

The interpretation of the Constitution has always changed. And it will continue to do so. Alarmist #######!

But the climate is supposed to stay the same.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

-Ben Franklin

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Firstly, we're beyond that point already as we were forced to give up plenty of liberties in the aftermath of 9/11. Secondly, the idea behind this particular quote may have been part of the discussion that the school exercise sought to ignite with this controversial statement. But God forbid our kids are tought to think in school. Some RWNJ will scream indoctrination when the purpose of the exercise is the exact opposite.

Thiking is dangerous, threfore any attempt to open dialogue must be met with resistance, and if that shoud fail, post something, anything, you find on the inerweb; back it up with a blog and insist on pretending it is true... If you click your heels three times, it may very well be so...

California, as of April 15th has officially presented the end game. You often hear "Oh no we aren't going to ban firearms just the dangerous assault weapons".

Well California has decided to redefine practically all long guns as an assault weapon. If the newest bill passes 90% of long guns will become illegal including things like the ruger 10/22 or the marlin 795 (.22 plinkers). Confiscation will commence in July of next year unless they are registered and they will be confiscated upon the death of the owner.

Pretty much all of the "tea partiers with tin hats" have had their opinions validated. Of course SCOTUS will have its choice of cases to take up in the next 18 months or so and we can only hope that long guns will receive the protection that handguns already get.

Is that in addition to or in lieu of 809?

809, is that the number of a bill?

Edit.

Ab 809 - The registration of long guns.

Yes this is in addition to, and is far more reaching.

In that case we are speaking of legislation that is yet to be voted and passed.

I think the men being forced to have sex with other men part happens after someone gets arrested, mainly...

I wonder if that is unique to the US...

No, it's not. In fact, in some countries, they are packed in like sardines, so maybe happening more frequently, and maybe not so forced.
