A lesson about the Bill of Rights took a strange turn when a Jacksonville, Fla., father found the words, “I am willing to give up some of my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure” scrawled in crayon on paper in his fourth-grader’s backpack.

Back in January, a local lawyer visited Cedar Hills Elementary, the school Aaron Harvey’s son attends, to teach students about the Constitution, reports TheBlaze. Now here’s where things get weird. When the attorney left, Harvey says the fourth-grade teacher dictated the sentence and had students write it down. Several of his son’s classmates corroborated this story.

Definitely alarming that a teacher would force students to write out that mantra. Students, especially at such a young age, should be provided with an unbiased education - not force-fed the opinions and beliefs of anyone else whether it is a parent or a teacher. Let them learn the facts, experience the world, and come to their own conclusions.

I wanted to write a really long and drawn-out response to this, since it's one of the things I really dislike about my country.

My line of thinking is, if we make sacrifices for safety, we turn into a police state. The way we are treated at the airport becomes the way we are treated every day. That's scary to me, and I would leave the country if it became that way. I want for myself and my loved ones to have privacy.

I like being wrapped in a nice soft, warm blanket, much better than being left out in the rain and cold, but that is just me. I feel safer when the government has all the guns, instead of every loony reactionary that gets wood every time he thinks about blowing away some dissavantaged person stealing food, or making a last stand against liberal storm troopers forcing him to have sex with other men.

It appears to be a serious threat this time. The story [sic] was reported on the interweb, based on a blog and originated from a radio show. What is there to question?! It can't possibly be thought of as hokum!
