I am new to this forum so please bear with me. If my question should be in another section, please let me know

I am a US citizen and plan to move to Thailand this summer and not hold a job but do some volunteering and other non-paid activities. I will marry my Thai fiancee this fall and plan to live in Thailand for one year. I then want to return to my house in the USA for 3 to 6 months to finish my employment career. After being in the USA for 3 to 6 months, I will return to Thailand. When I come back to the USA, I will want my Thai wife to come with me but we only plan to stay in the USA for 3-6 months the first time and perhaps 2-4 months per year afterwards.

I am not sure what type of visa we should be working to get. I want to learn as much as possible ahead of time to give us the most and best options. I have been told by people that we should get a tourist visa. But I have also heard that it is very very difficult achieve for most Thai people.

I am not sure that an immigration visa is appropriate since we plan to spend most of our time living in Thailand.

Advice and suggestions would be most welcome.

If you do not intend to immigrate then do not file for an immigrant visa

Sounds like you want a tourist visa, however a thai wife will have trouble getting one unless she has substantial ties to Thailand.

good luck
