Hey guys

I posted a topic "think i got robbed" about a month ago. Turns out the guy just wanted to waste my time. He told he'll do my papers for me but just threw them in his desk for 3 months and didn't do a thing. I got fed up with waiting and went back to his office and ask him what's going on. He told me he has been really busy doing taxes for people but said he already sent it in. I asked him for my papers back so I can do it somewhere else. He was very quick with this as i got everything back within 10 minutes. I was so angry with him but knew being cruel and showing my frustration was going to get me nowhere. He wrote me a check for my money back(which I am going to scan before I cash it just to be safe) for the 340 i gave to him for my application and 300 for his services. I am very sad to know that I have wasted 3 months for absolutely nothing! Three months I will never get back. It made me wonder what the persons intentions were? I guess I'll never know the truth and there's no point in looking back, just got to stay strong and move forward. I am wondering now if I should hire another person to do them for me only because I am nervous that if I do it myself, I will make a mistake and will have to wait even longer. One reason is that I do not have that much evidence to show, because I only went to visit her for a month in 2012. I have plane stubs showing i went there. Also photos of us at our ceremony and traveling around her country. I am thinking that if I do it with an experienced attourney, I will have a better chance of being approved. All advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time!! :)

As long as your case isn't complicated there is no reason you need an attorney. there are guides at the top pf this page you can follow for each and every step of the process. Having a lawyer will not speed up the process, often times they slow it down. An attorney can;t get you approved, an on going bona fide relationship with plenty of evidence to back it up will get you an approval. This is a do it yourself site and unless you have a complicated case, I don't think anyone here will recommend using a lawyer. Best of luck, and it's nice to see you got your money refunded

The way I see it is the attorney will not have any more proof to add then you do. He will not be doing anything more for you then you can do for yourself. I think you should save your money and do it yourself. No one will be as careful with it as you.

If you are worried about only having one trip, then try to make another before interview time (use the money you would have on an attorney). Keep adding up all your relationship proof - send what you have with your petition, but keep accumulating more.

If you follow the guidelines and instructions you should be fine :)

If I were you, I would not hire an attorney for this. Follow the examples, you'll be ok. I just applied for my petition for my fiancee in Cambodia as well. It was well easy by following the example. and if you need any assistance, let me know. Just contact me at janysoth@gmail.com

Just becareful if you submit photos of the cerimony you had there. They could think it was a wedding. Good to hear your money was returned and the only thing you lost was time. As others have said if you do not have a complicated case you should be able to submit everything yourself and if you have questions this site has many resources and great help here. Good luck.

Unless you have something complicating your situation follow the 129f instruction sheet exactly and you'll have no problem, it's easy.

I wouldn't trust anyone else to file a petition....they may not be familiar with what's needed and nobody will give your petition as much attention to detail as you will yourself.
