Hello everyone! I have a question. I am a citizen of Turkmenistan. Our family moved to Russia in 2011 for permanent stay. I still didn't get Russian citizenship. And the problem is that I don't know when I'll get it.

My fiancee is coming to Russia in two months time!)) and he'll file the K-1, K-2 petitions for me and my son. But the problem is my citizenship. I am Turkmenistan passport holder. We can not go back to Turkmenistan and don't have Russian citizenship yet. Is it possible to receive K-1 visa in Russia, without going back to Turkmenistan? And do I have to get Russian citizenship before we apply for K-1?

Thank you very much for your time and reading this. I really need help with this. Thank you!

If you are legally living in Russia, then you'll have your interview at the Embassy servicing where you live.

You'll use your valid passport to give to the Embassy into which to insert your K-1 visa.

Does your son have a passport? Or is he included in yours?

I am talking about international passports, not the internal ones that Russia also uses. He will need something into which to insert his K-2.

Email the Embassy with your questions; they know what they will want to see.

You don't have to be a citizen in Russia before you can apply for K-1 in Russia. Once you are legal in Russia you can apply there. Only if you are illegal in Russia then I will advice you to go and apply in your own country Turkmenistant. Good luck....
