So this is my problem, this morning I went to get my NBI clearance for my interview which is scheduled on March 25th. I was able to get NBI clearance before with no hits, but today I got a hit and was asked to come back on March 14th. I am worried because I have an unpaid internet bill from SMARTBRO and I received demand letters to settle my bill which amounts to 4,000 pesos only. I stopped receiving those letters on December of last year. I know that it's very unlikely for them to file a case against me since no person can be imprisoned for non-payment of debt. I'm sure of this coz I was a law student for 3 years. However I'm still worried coz that's the only reason I could think about for why I would get a hit. Plus, if there was really a case pending against me, I should have received a subpoena or a warrant of arrest for that matter but I receive none of that. So I really doubt it. It could be just a case of having a person with the same name as I do. I'm so worried that I wont be able to get my clearance on time for my interview. So I was wondering if there is any way that I could get NBI to speed up the verification process. Is there? i really want this done before March 14 just in case something else goes wrong then I have time to fix it. Please help. :/

Moved from K-1 process questions to regional Philipines as this is a regional issue with a police clearance not a K-1 process question.

It's probably not a hit but a thorough checking. This happened to me too and I doubt that I have a namesake.

My thought was that once your petition arrived at the US Embassy, they require more background checks on your name so when you went to NBI, it alerted them to make further checking. That is all it is. You will be able to get your NBI clearance on the 14th.

Good luck!

usually they just put "hit" if your name is common like first name or family name and that could actually be fixed in a short amount of time IF they are willing to work on it a little sooner but sadly there are offices that just put hit on it because they dont want to work on the clearance that day and just ask you to come back few weeks after. i really had a terrible experience that i have to pay extra just to get it on time before my interview

honestly that's what i first thought of. Since the first couple of NBI clearances that I got were just for employment and this time it's for travel abroad. and then I thought about my internet bill and then thats when i started worrying.

that is true. most of the applicants there today were asked to come back on the 14th and that really wasnt the case before when i first got my NBI clearance. YOu know how slow govt agencies here are. You said you paid extra? for what? you think maybe i can do the same? what should i tell them?

A 'Hit' means someone with the same name as you who has a record or something and they just want to make sure that person and you are not the same.. So a background check is needed.. And there's no way to speed thing up to get your NBI faster unless you know someone from inside..

Goodluck!

i begged for it :P then he said he will make a long distance call (w/c idk where) and i will be charged for the call (but i know better than that) so without any choice and out of desperation to get it sooner i said yes and i got it 2 days after :P this was a transaction outside the office tho and i know you know what i mean ;)

i had the same perspective before but it all changed after my experience of being asked to pay extra to get it sooner

I have friends who encountered the same thing as yours in getting NBI clearance, even though their names were not that common at all. So I guess it couldn't be your phone bill, so relax, I think you'll be fine. About how to get it before the said date, one of my friends paid an amount to a fixer and had her NBI clearance in a day, and the sad thing is that the fixer is an employee at NBI.

note: dont make it appear as bribe or trying to bribe tho just ask if there is anything they or you can do to speed it up a little bit because you need it so bad ;)

true that! that's what exactly my friend did.

Oh. yeah, is sad. but that is usually how govt agencies work. haha. problem with that is they will charge you so much.
