We got a text from USCIS

Good day!

We got an email first from USCIS saying : Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number MSC**********. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit USCIS website where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

This confirmation provides notification of the date USCIS received your case. This notice does NOT grant any immigration status or benefit. You MAY NOT present this notice as evidence that you have been granted any immigration status or benefit. Further, this notice does NOT constitute evidence that your case remains pending with USCIS. The current status of your case must be verified with USCIS.

Then we got a text saying: Your case was received. Receipt number MSC**********. Official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) to follow in mail. Msg & Data rates may apply.

then we checked our status at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services web page using the Receipt Number and it says :

Initial Review

On January 25, 2013, we received this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

I just want to ask if this is good, and do we need to prepare something for the next step? thank you so much in advance

This means they received your I130 petition and it is now in the queue for processing!

With that said, keep in mind you most likely will not hear anything else for some months now. Once your petition is approved you will move onto the NVC stage. It would be a good idea to take a look at the NVC guides and get familiar with what you will need so when the time comes you can have things ready and there will be no delays. It's just a waiting game a this point.

I sent my on Jan. 08, 2013 and they get it the next day; however, when I check the status on the web. it said can not find your case, even after over 3 weeks. is it normal or not.

Normal. Occasionally case status does not appear at all and people still get approved. My case didn't show up for 2 months. If you are worried about your case progress, call the USCIS and tell them your case was received and you have a case number but it is not showing up in the system.

I only knew of CSC and VSC during my I-129F fiasco. What is MSC? Is MSC the same as NBC?

What are the trends for this MSC as it relates to a standalone I-130?

Will this stay at MSC throughout the process then?

you will either stay at the nbc or go to a field office

chances of finding out via notification are slim to none

theres no difinitve time

think 45 days to six months

MSC stands for "Missouri Service Center", the old name for the National Benefits Center.

As of August 15, local field offices are taking up much of the workload from the NBC. This is temporary and will cease sometime in early 2013. Nobody knows whether your file will stay at NBC or be transferred. It is more likely to be transferred than not, but nobody knows when that will happen and you are unlikely to be notified unless there is some other reason for the transfer (such as needing an interview). Once the file is transferred, the USCIS customer service phone line cannot track its progress anymore, at least not any more than you can see by checking online case status.

Processing trends depend on current processing rates at NBC and/or local offices, and since the workload shifts, these rates cannot be properly tracked (which is ridiculous, imagine a national corporation with that many branches not being able to track production) so they are not properly reported. It's a mess but people ARE getting through it OK, like we did.
