is it okay to have plans before the visa petition interview? Like buying ticket, because it is cheaper if we book ahead of time, right?

will it affect the decision of giving you K1 visa?

Never ever purchase your ticket prior to having the visa in hand.

It doesn’t affect the decision but it could certainly hurt your pocketbook as you don’t know the result of the interview or how long it will take to get the visa in hand.

We have seen time and again on VJ, people in a panic because of wedding plans, flights, whatever.

If you have your ticket far out after the interview date to get your visa, and you're pretty sure that you have enough evidence that they'll easily give you a visa, you can buy the ticket now. They will not speed up the delivery of a visa to accomodate your travel plans though, so if it doesn't arrive on time, you're going to have to pay to change your tickets. Or if they put your petition under review or deny the visa for any reason, you're out the ticket price (unless it's a refundable ticket, but then it will not be any cheaper to buy in advance).

You will still have enough time to do that (up to 180 days) after the interview and having visa in hand.

You could purchase your ticket, but you should probably purchase the refundable type of ticket because anything can happen.

It would be OK to make such plans and buy a ticket provided you can be refunded if there should be a need to make change in those plans.

Counting on a visa - any kind of visa - before you actually have it in your hands it not very wise.

OK? Sure. Wise? No. Pay your nickle and take your chances. Don't come a'whining if you get put in AP and lose your money for the cheap (but non-refundable) ticket.

We waited until the visa was IN OUR HAND and then booked a flight for ONE MONTH LATER! Can you even imagine!!!!!!!!???????? Cheap fares, no risk.

Actually, I bought my tickets before the interview and got lucky. I did buy tickets for date 1 week after the interview. We flew home together. Now, let's compare prices: If you buy after visa is in hand and if you want to fly within a week it will be extremely expensive. If you buy tickets ahead of time it will be MUCH cheaper. Let's say you did not get lucky and you have to change the date. Usually there is $100-150 changing fee... Still makes sense..

If you even have to ask this kind of question, then it's probably not a good idea.

We didn't purchase the tickets until the Embassy gave us the approval and then took a gamble on how quick she'd receive the actual visa (took a week for her situation).

Purchase tickets before the interview? Foolhardy is being mild....but if money is no object to you....go for it.

All Embassies advise is,not to sell posessions,buy tickets,or resign jobs B4 visa is in hand

if one can afford the loss or extra stress then buy the ticket.
