Completely agreed on all these points. I didn't grow up with guns (despite my grandparents both working for Mossberg) but there were family members who were hunters and I understood guns in that context only. I don't think anybody in CT is talking about a full-on ban. I think what is happening is a far less politically charged conversation than what is happening outside the state, which I find interesting. The rhetoric levels are pretty low.

You missed the snowstorms! I hadn't seen snow since my last visit in 2010, and then BAM! 6 inches.

I actually drove from Houston to northwest CT then over to RI (sister recently moved across the border). went into CT on 84 sunday night in the rain with temps just above freezing ... that was good. by the time i got closer to home up near the MA border and higher in elevation the temps dropped below freezing. i was glad the back roads were freshly sanded, (one of the towns truck drivers is a friend, knew the road conditions and my eta ... yea small towns are nice). haven't had to traverse the drive and front step coated in ice for awhile. woke up the next morning to everything outside coated in ice. you know that nice glistening look .... kinda miss that in a weird sort of way. got out just before the snow hit ... did get the strong winds and rain from the storm front further south.

When it's snowing for 10 hours, I'd say that was a snowstorm. Not a blizzard. DID I SAY BLIZZARD? Plus in Southern CT, 6 inches is a decent amount of accumulation. 2-3" is more common.

I am from a town 25 miles from Newtown, and I was just back there last week. Our state is in mourning, and really, if you're not from there or living there, it's hard to understand the level of grief at the moment. Paul is right that outsiders with an agenda are seen as interlopers trying to make hay of what happened. However, there overriding dialogue is that something needs to be done, and that something is not more guns.

I'm trying not to comment on what happened in Newtown too much, because it hits too close to home. I know a family with children at the school, children who are thankfully safe but are going to need years and years of love and support and counselling. I personally know lawmakers who are trying to determine how to try to prevent something like this happening again. I know a cop who donated his time on Christmas Day so that a Newtown officer could at last have a day off. I even know the attorney who was involved in the aborted lawsuit against the state. It's a small state, and the degrees of separation are accordingly small. And even though I understand what Green is trying to do here, it smacks of insensitivity at this time.

Agreed, she didn't need to 'make the trip'

as Giffords' newly-formed PAC could easily use her as one of the poster-moms - no need to travel out of Arizona. Bad form, imo, for her to make the trip.

I've gone even wimpier out here. One day -- one day! -- after coming back from New England, I was complaining about how cold it was in LA. It was 55F. The BF and I went out for a drive down Mullholland Blvd on Sunday and we stopped at one of the scenic overlooks. After five minutes, I said, "Let's get back to the car. I'm freezing and it's raining!" It was 58F and there were a few blops of rain coming down here and there.

I love my hometown, and my adopted hometown in Britain, but I sure do like the weather out here. When people ask me, "Would you ever move back to London or CT?" I give them the baffled look.

I think I would be miserable somewhere that didn't get cold or snow when it's supposed to. Though I've never tried it.

It made me laugh when I moved here when people would warn me about the winters. Please.

Our first snow fall when I moved here, and I was out shoveling the sidewalk in pajama pants and a sweater... and the lady across the street came over to me and asked me why I wasn't wearing a coat. Please. I'm Canadian! I got this.

I can relate... My answer to moving somewhere cold is always HTTN although I love going to NY or London when it is cold, but moving back to either place I don't think so....
