I was wondering if anyone knew if you could complete an adoption of a step child in Nigeria or would you have to petition for the child to come to the states and then complete the adoption once the child is in the states?

As regards nationality, an adoption order shall not be made in respect of a

child unless the applicant is a citizen or, in the case of a joint application, both

applicants are citizens of Nigeria. There is no ambiguity in this provision. A

non-Nigerian cannot apply for an adoption order under the Act whether solely

or jointly with a citizen of Nigeria.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Step parent adoptions are very easy in the US. You will need the non-immigrating biological parent's consent to permanently give up the child. This person would no longer be the child's parent, so the child can never file a petition for this person.

Thank you for the information NigeriaorBust I thought that was the case but I wanted to make sure. My friend was being fed poor information there was suppose to be an attorney in Nigeria that was going to help with them with the adoption and I told them not to pay anything because I didnt think that she could do an adoption there that it would have to be done in the states.

If they are both Nigerian citizens yes, If they are in the south or east. Much of the north doesn't do adoption period. They have all sorts of rules about the age different and sex of adoptive parents , especially single adoptors.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
