RUB Mentality ?

So I have a half a jar of Bertolli mushroom Alfredo sauce in the fridge. I boil up some pasta that I plan on mixing with the mushroom sauce and the wife ask how long the Alfredo sauce has been in the fridge. I tell her two weeks tops. So she says she doesn't want it on the pasta. The jar was locked tight on the sauce and this is from a gal who drinks some god knows what in a jar full of mushroom milk covered with a towel no less that's kept in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.

He has trouble explaining that the dates are to be taken with a grain of salt, and some are "sell by" or "best if used by" dates. One wouldn't think that unopened bottled water would expire, no man...

She won't ever give a straight answer because that might admit to me being right and lord knows we don't want that to ever happen. Everything around here that goes wrong is my fault...even the weather.

How much cottage cheese does she keep in the fridge? (Laughing). My wify eats cottage cheese everyday. Oh, I seen that jar with milk and mushrooms, and I thought like "WTH"? No way I'm drinking that !! But then again, we over here in Cajun land eat mud bugs (crawfish) and other stuff that might make them gag too (laughing), should of seen the look on my wife's face when I told her how we eat crawfish by taking the head of the crawfish and sucking the joice out (laughing). PRICELESS !!!! (Laughing).

[it's Victor from Russia] Well, partially it's not a RUB mentality but just personal things - I've known some people who wouldn't eat yesterday bought bread because it wasn't baked tonight/today and was too old for them. But partially - yes, it's RUB mentality made by difference in food in the US and in RUB. Here, in the US, food often is so much processed and so much filled with preservatives that I barely can believe it can be kept for so long and not turn to poison. I don't know about Alfredo sause because I don't use it, but speaking, as example, of mayo - I can't believe that here you can keep unopened jar of mayo for over half of the year in room temperature (I bought some Hellman's in December and it says "best if used by 07/19/13). Most brands of Russian mayo have shelf-stable life (if unopened!) no more than a 3-4 weeks from production date, to keep tham longer (and still no more than 6 months) you have to keep them all the time in the fridge under 50F. The same about hot dogs - here they're still ok in the fridge a week after opening, Russian hot dogs mostly were fresh for no more than, may be, 3 days. I can tell the same about many kinds of food here - you can keep it without being rotten for much, much longer, than in RUB. If somebody in Russia would offer me creamy/cheesy sauce opened for two weeks, I would be suspicious if they want to make me sick with it. I'm not a specialist in food industry, but I think difference is in depth of food processing and amount of preservatives.

These are excuses, not reasons. Alla will not eat the Bertolli's fresh from the store shelf because it is "chemical food" Kira makes an excuse, Alla just tells me "I will not eat chemical food"

Yes, Alla leaves milk on the counter all night. And all that other stuff that should kill you on contact.

I would have to conlude that Ukrainians are more direct than Belorussians.

Yep, Alla's sentiments exactly. If she wants Mayo (Ukrainians love mayo!)she makes it herself from eggs and oil and nothing else. She will not eat mayo from the store (I do)She does no teat hot dogs AT ALL, ever (garbage food) American bread is repulsive to her, she has to buy bakery fresh bread (it is good! American bread sucks, she is right) Milk from the cow, eggs from chickens "walking around on the ground" etc.

Yes, mud bugs (most people call them) but its crawfish and you boild them and its mostly the tail that has the meat, but us Cajuns suck the heads because of the crab boil mix (very spicy) in them. When I'm in Minsk, she lets me pick what I want to eat. I can say this, they have some ham there that's taste better than I find over here in the states, and I love there ice cream there. My girl can cook. Most I do eat and I enjoy (I just don't ask what's in it have the time, laughing). I also cooked for her some good old fashion Cajun red beans and rice. She loved it. now she made a list of Cajun food she wants to try when she gets here (I told her she will get fat doing so, laughing).. Can't wait to show her how we eat boiled blue crabs (lol).

They have a lot of crawdads in Belarus. They use them for bait when fishing in the rivers over there. As far as crab goes... Alaska King for me followed by Dungeness.

Now, she's slapping me back with my own since of humor and we're going tic for tac (laughing). But when it comes to food? D'ya think? Alla HATES Walmart (we do not have a super walmart, just a plain 'ol Walmart) and she won't buy anything there except cleaning supplies and .22 ammunition for her rifle and pistol ("best place for bullets")

You can lose her FOR DAYS in TJ Maxx. Bed,Bath and Beyond or the Mall but she does not like Walmart
