LPR both ways?

I just saw in another thread that a couple of people were applying for their spouses to have permanent residence in Canada. Their US spouses were also applying for them to have permanent residence in the USA. Don't you have to pick one? This isn't citizenship. It comes with requirements that you have to live more time in a country than out of it. Canada has implemented some stricter laws regarding permanent residence via spouses as well. How would that work out? I just don't understand unless you live on a border town and are back and forth all the time. It's not like it's hard to visit either country.

Yes you need to chose, but you can have both petitions going at the same time.

They may have started one and now not sure which one they want.

They may be uncertain, for whatever reason, whether one or the two gets approved and want to keep the other one going in case their first choice gets denied.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

It doesn’t seem workable to me either.

I know OHIP rules are that you have to live in ON for at least 183 days.

It seems like a case of wanting their cake...
