Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get a certified English translation of my Malaysian birth certificate in the Petaling Jaya/Kuala Lumpur area? Any help is much appreciated!

Hi there,

I've come across this place while browsing online - it's called Institut Terjemahan dan Buku Malaysia. I believe they are located in Wangsa Maju, KL. You can google them for more information. I've never used them before, but I hope this information will help you with your translation needs!

In my wife's case. I just found a friend who knows both languages. She wrote a letter (Identifying herself) attached it to the document stating that she is fluent in both the Malay and English languages. Then she translated a copy of the birth cert. with lines pointing to the captions to the best of her abilities. And it was accepted as supporting documents. Good Luck.

Does that mean that anyone who is fluent in both languages can do the translation provided that they are fluent in both Malay and English?

There are two types of Malaysian birth certs,the old one and new one. The old one is not bilingual the new one is. If I have the new one, do I still need to get it translated?

I'm interested to know this well.. :)

In my wife's case, during the entire process, i130 to n400, the affidavit from someone fluent in both languages was good enough. Her BC was in Malay only.

In the case where there is English on the BC, no translation is necessary.

Good thing I have the new birth certificate. Just for additional info, I got an extract of my birth certificate for RM5, and I think it was within 2 weeks? provided that you have the original birth certificate or a police report stating that it was lost/destroyed. :)

I just extracted my birth certificate from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara in KL for RM5. It was a breezy process. Took less than an hour.

The certificate is not entirely bilingual. The form is bilingual but the information is not.

For example: Jantina Gender: Perempuan

So, "Perempuan" is not translated.

Is that acceptable for the K1 Visa application/ interview.

Should I still get it translated?
