As the first response stated, if he's willing to be reasonable (i.e. sign without problems) then you won't necessarily need a lawyer.

I suggest you go to your local courthouse and ask about the forms required. Usually they'll give you the forms, or direct you to a website with the forms. You'll pay a filing fee to file the documents and not necessarily even need to get him served because if he's willing to co-operate, he'll just need to sign the forms.

There will be a waiting period most like but the clerks at your courthouse will explain it to you.

I know you said your GC stuff doesn't matter but I will mention a few things anyway. I would make an infopass appointment prior to leaving the country to withdraw your AOS application (take a written letter withdrawing) so that you tie up any loose ends. If you get your GC (without interview) prior to leaving then hand it over at the embassy in your home country on your arrival. Once you withdraw you will have about 30 days to leave. If you accrued any overstay prior to filing AOS and there was enough for a ban, then you will get a ban (only getting your GC approved with get rid of a ban), if there wasn't enough for a ban you may still have problems getting a visitor visa and if you are from a VWP country then you will most likely be unable to use that.

I'm sorry you're going through this. You will be okay.

Most divorce cases are handed at the county level,

so go into the county court office, building,

and ask for the clerk's office .

Once there, ask the clerk about the actual process for filing for a divorce, and ask where the law library is that's affiliated or attached to the county courthouse.

Go to the law library, talk with the law librarian, ask about seeing the templates used to file for divorce. Sometimes they will sell a pack for under 30 bucks.

Many paralegals hang out at the law library, you can ask them if they know of any good divorce attornies that specialize in crazy husbands or marriage infidelity.

Besides, you're gonna have to show up at the county courthouse sooner or later - imo it's best to go by yerself, that first time, do yer own research before engaging with an attorney.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Search for him here Florida Sex Offender Registry and search for him on Google. If he's got any arrests, it should appear somewhere online. At least you will know what you are dealing with before getting divorced.

My personal opinion would be , if your mind is set on divorce ,to find a lawyer and go on with it , but do not rush to leave the country , you have rights , go on with your GC process , it is not easy to change countries . I know you feel betrayed , and you might want to go back to your family and friends to feel safer , but you have started a new life in a new country, do not let all your time in usa to go down the drain.

You are asking for a divorce because of internet viewing?

You talk others about being judgmental? really? You ask this because you are being nosy. You answered her question with another question, a question that has zero to do with how to go about finding a lawyer or obtaining a divorce. You attacked Destiny for passing judgment, and she answered the OP's question without a single judgmental word...

To the OP you can go to the local courthouse and file for divorce without a lawyer. The fee for an uncontested divorce is inexpensive, and if there are no children involved the paper work is very straight forward. If you have trouble understanding the process the court can give you names of divorce attorneys in your area. If you can't afford a lawyer they can recommend lawyers that will work pro bono or at a discounted rate. You have been married less than a year so you won't qualify for alimony or spousal support. Good luck and I wish you the best, divorce is never easy.

Hi VJ community. I come here once again but this time to ask for a different kind of help unfortunately.

I married my husband at beginning of this year (he is the USC) and unfortunately till now I don't think things are working well.

During this year I found out that he has done things on my back previous my arrival in US. Like contacting women on the internet for casual sex (he said he did not sleep with any of them), checking ads of escorts, etc among other things (I have the proof).

His behavior has not been normal and he never apologized for what he did, he always said that what he did "maybe was wrong". When I showed him the proofs he blamed me, he said that I dont trust him and things like that.

In the last weeks he has been saying things that dont make sense (for no aparent reason).

What is more weird is that when I arrived at the POE in Miami, the inmigration officer sounded reluctant about him. Right then I did not understand anything what this officer was trying to tell me but He kept asking me if I knew him, my then fiance, well and kept telling me that people show their real personality after the marriage. Now Im starting to think that maybe the inmigration officer had some information about my husband that I did not know. As I thought it was very suspicious that the IO kept saying this. Then he said that they can not say anything even if there is information in the system they are not allowed to give this info. That was the first sign that put me in alert mode and from there ALL was going down in my marriage.

FYI, I still did not receive the GC and honestly thats the last thing I worry about.

As soon as I divorce, I will go back to my country but I wanna know if someone can recommend a good but not so expensive lawyer in South Florida. I really don't know a thing of how the divorce process is in US. I just want to divorce him, I dont even want to fight for anything that he had/has. Just want to start with the divorce papers.

Any help will be appreciated. If you have any question feel free to ask.

Happy New Year to everyone.

hello, I also live in Florida. If you go to the courthouse, they usually have an attorney that will help you file the correct forms, they charge around 50.00, the attorney will file the forms that you need ,according to your case, then you would file and pay the fees. If you don't have children or significant assets and married for less then two years (I believe),You could be divorced in 30 days. I did it this way, i live in Palm Beach. Good Luck

I will respond to you because you tend to have a mighter than thy attitude about many things and people.

Personaly I hate when any poster comes on to a DIY board and put all of their personal business for the public. This poster could have written two simple sentence, if all she wanted was a name of a divorce lawyer.

The statement could have been, I live in the state of : " . Could someone assist me with a name divorce lawyers. That would have gotten her exactly what she wanted. Why do people tell their life story, its because they wants other to ask 'why, what and when". Did I care if she responded, "NO".

My statement goes to you and anyone else who wants to judge others, if you don't want to be judged, than don't judged anyone else. Those who came and judged the poster about what she said had no more right than anyone else.

Second part of this discussion, do I care what you think, I think you know the answer to that question as well.

Three sides to my story -- my side, your side and the real truth lies in-between...

Go to the county courthouse and you should find an inexpensive attorney to help you file for uncontested divorce based on irreconcilable differences. Goodluck!

She simple could have Google, " how to obtain a divorce in the state of Florida". She probably would have goten over 1000 hits. No need to come onto an immigration site to ask about how to obtain a divorce. But since she did let those who wish to offer advice proceed on.

Makes the forum much more diverse right? I do believe she has more trust in VJ than google so, I think it's an indirect compliment. LadyPancakes also seems educated to me.

Honestly i wouldn't advice you to go for a divorce, its not the best way to handle issues, life is not a bed of roses, the true essence of marriage is for better for worse, i don't understand why the world is turning marriages into short term affair. If there is anything going wrong in your marriage, i advise you to seek the face of the lord, there is nothing GOD cannot do. your husband brought you to America cos he loves you. the issue of internet porn and what have you is his weakness which you are expected to deal with. That is where u need to perform your role as a wife and the ways of achieving this is through counseling and constantly showering him with love. let him know you've got that which he seeks outside and yours is even better. try talk some sense into him and am sure he will surely change. it will be a plus that you changed him than you divorced him. I wish you all the best and hopefully this will assist in many ways.
