She needs to show ties to her home country, which is difficult with an immigrant visa in progress.. Does she have any ties, such as a child staying behind, a good job or such?

She has a good reason- her husband. Unfortunately, that also means she has a good reason to stay. All she can do is try- a denial will not affect the spousal visa.

anyone know of good reasons to request a visitors visa for my wife to visit me

You don't request a visa for your wife to visit you. She applies on her own merit.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Another vote for her to apply.

Well, visiting you is a valid reason. Like others have said, don't get your hopes up, she needs to show strong ties/reasons for coming back home (colombia).

My wife and I tried and got denied. Good thing was we were almost 95% sure she would be denied, but it was worth trying just cause there is so much to gain.

If she does get the visa, when she comes to visit she will also need to bring proof of those ties in case she gets questioned at the POE.
