I have mentioned CustomHouse a fair bit in tx'ing $$$$. When they were just Customhouse, they were geat--then a few years ago they were bought out by Western Union and like Krikit has mentioned, the rates they were giving, were not as good as before.

Today I got an email from them stating: "We would like to inform you that our fees for Electronic Funds Transfers have changed. Effective November 1st, 2012, the fee for outgoing EFT payments will be 5.00 USD." But I guess since I am a valued client, lol those fees do not start until March 2013!!!

Still an option, but maybe not as competitive as they once were.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I have noticed the exchange rates getting worse and worse and also just got the email and came to post about it.

I think I'm going to try looking into some new options now. I've been using them to transfer money every month to pay student loans.

I think I read on here that TD Bank can now transfer between TD Canada Trust over the phone only - I think I'll look into opening a TD Bank account here in the US.

Anyone else have any good, cheap options for transferring money from a US to Canadian account? I need to be able ot do it within a week, so writing cheques isn't going to work.

I guess I could also ask TD Canada Trust if I can just my line of credit by US check/mail.

I too have RBC Canada and RBC US. No exchange fees just the exchange rate as noted above.

I was going to look into a TD Bank US account for next time I am down there as well. There are branches all over where I am moving.

I currently use ING to swap CAD to USA with rates better than your traditional bank although I don't yet know if I can maintain that upon moving state side. Seems like all the big banks with CAD and USA entities are on the east coast. Anything over here on the west coast?
