Usually, males are put in AP, but not always. There is hope, as my husband was one of the lucky ones that did not get AP, however... it is very rare. We were prepared for the AP and were shocked when the visa was issued!

Mostly guys go through APs because they have name checks to go through and other security checks as well. But if you read the Visa site carefully, you will see that they ask for 90 days to resolve the AP from the time you have provided them with all necessary documents. In other cases you are also allowed to get in touch with them after 60 days period has passed in AP. During interview they might give you a sheet which says not to bother them by email or phone during AP and they might speak saying that AP takes 4 months, more or less depending on case lengths. And yes women also go through AP. Security check goes for everyone but women have a lower probability of going in AP as to what I have learned from this forum....

Let's put it this way. The likelyhood of pakistani males being put on 'AP' is very high. There are some who don't get it, but, plan for AP but you may be surprised.

I am not sure if the name thing matters alot, but, background checking and proof of relationship probably single most important element in putting folks on hold.

- It's very important to have met in person in pakistan or somewhere where you show proof of meeting.

- Take alots of pictures, hotel receipts, airfare receipts.

- Pictures of with family members

- Make sure you don't need a co sponsor. I keep on reading how during the interview session they deny visa b/c lack of financial support from USA sponsor.

- Get all police certificates from places male fiancé has lived. It shows through sponsor has done due diligence.

- Make sure all fiancé information is correct and matches on all forms. Interviewer will question the accuracy of the forms.

It's very tough that so many males are put on AP, but, at least you need to be prepared.

Good luck

That's true i emailed them and they said not to bother them. what's up with this AP. My wife Interview had no objection since june 2012 and they kept her passport, so what is the point of this process? I ask new york senator Gillabrand to ask us embassy islamabad on my behalf.. 2 weeks later received letter from senator stating "her case is undergoing AP, a normal part of the visa application process, that can be neither EXPEDITED nor WAIVED. please understand(LOL) that we are unable to predict the amount of time this will require. However, once the AP is complete, we will contact her" currently am working on my letter to the president obama...
